Really enjoyed, wish it wasn’t all-inclusive

We traveled here with our 8-year-old daughter and really enjoyed it. Our trip was from Jan 3-7 so I don’t know if that affected the clientele that was there and if our experience was typical or not. The good: The pool is outstanding, probably one of the best I’ve been at. Water temperature was perfect (I’m pretty sure it is heated) and the amoeba-like layout combined with the integration of landscaping gave it a great laid-back feel. It was pretty much the opposite of the typical Cancun pool party scene, and we very much appreciated the difference. We got the upgraded liquor package and I thought the drinks were notably better than the typical all-inclusive stuff. Service was friendly. Having read the reviews online, we used Eric in the blue google shirt on the beach to help us book excursions (horseback riding and surf lessons) and found him to be excellent. How he built his business I’ll never know but he was a pleasure to work with. The beds and bedding were outstandingly comfortable. The bad: Although I’ve said it before and failed to keep my word, I think this will be the last all-inclusive resort I sign up for. The food was really not very good. None of it was gross or inedible, but really just kind of sub-par across the board. The Italian restaurant was probably the best of the bunch, but we felt like it was a notable step or two below The Olive Garden, if that’s helpful for calibration. The Mediterranean restaurant was the worst, and the market/buffet got old pretty quickly. The other major drawback of all-inclusives is that there are never enough servers, presumably because as a cost-savings measure. This was definitely true of restaurant and poolside staff. On our last day we ate lunch at an actual restaurant in Playa Longosta and I was like “Wow, I forgot what real food tastes like.” Despite the food and all-inclusive stuff, we really did enjoy our time here, which was largely focused around pool time. The overall vibe was great and very family friendly, very much not similar to Cancun. The staff were friendly and the layout of the resort was great. Two pieces of advice: 1. If you are looking for a beach vacation, I’d go somewhere else as the beach is fine but really feels more like an add-on to the resort. You can never really see the ocean unless you are on the beach and it’s not the best beach. The pool more than made up for it for us, but just keep that in mind. We talked with a lot of families who booked excursions to go the rain forest, zip lining etc. and ended up spending a shocking amount of time in the car round-trip. If you want to do those things, stay here for a couple days then go stay somewhere specifically close to the excursions you want to do.

Excellent R& R at the Westin

We’re on our way home and already missing the Westin and beautiful Costa Rica! My family enjoyed our stay and the super helpful / friendly nature of the entire staff. Our room in Westin Club was very comfortable and well maintained by the cleaning folks. Concierge services from Jeffrey and Javier was 5 star! They make you feel like family. This is a large property but after a few days it’s easier to navigate. I did miss having beach views but the pools are amazing! For all inclusive we felt the food & drink was very good. I would suggest this for end of travel to rest in the sun after visiting other areas and experiencing all of what Costa Rica has to offer. It is not a Costa Rican vibe within the resort in my opinion other than the beautiful people that work there. Pura Vida ♥️

    Family vacation with adult children

Very first trip to Costa Rica and the Westin Playa Conchal was everything we wanted! My spouse and I traveled with our two adult children (27 and 24). We utilized Robyn Ayers with Dream Makers Vacation Services and she was very thorough and helpful planning the trip. She listened to our requests and helped with a lot of steps beginning to end. We upgraded to the Westin Club which I highly recommend when not traveling with children. The rooms were lovely over looking the adults only pool. There was a club members only restaurant available for breakfast and lunch. But the concierge services was the best thing! Jeffrey, Gredy, and Javier rotated during our week stay. They were very helpful when giving advice and planning excursions. My son did get a 24 hour stomach bug and Javier was able to help getting crackers and Gatorade. The family pool was where all the activities were and close to the beach. There isn’t any beach service but chairs are put out in the morning and it isn’t far to walk back to the pool area and get drinks and food. Plenty of shade around the pool and it was never an issue finding a chair. The meals at the restaurants were all very good with a lot of variety. We ate at the Mitra Market our first night. The food was better than most all inclusive buffets however all the stations were very spread out. Good in the way that not everyone is lined up but difficult to see the offerings at one time as you are making decisions. The ice cream was superb! We did a two hour jet ski tour and the La Leona waterfall excursion. That was a long drive and our driver took the Congo trail instead did the highway stating traffic. I do think that was the case but if you have any issues with car sickness I don’t recommend that route. The waterfall was very unique but I would not consider it a “moderate hike” as described. The current at the falls was quite treacherous and all the guides had to help the guests through the process. It did feel unsafe at times. I don’t know what the criteria is for closing the falls but looking pictures I know we had a very different experience than when there isn’t any rain. Still glad we did it. The rooms and all building were very clean and well maintained. The only criticism I would give is there isn’t much evening entertainment. I wouldn’t expect full shows every night but even just a singer or musical act would be nice to stay out and listen to. We were back in our rooms by 9:00 just about every night after 7:00 dinner reservations. All in all a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to go back!

    Definitely coming back!

Our family of 3 had a wonderful stay at the Westin! Beautiful grounds, pool and beach! Lots of things to keep you busy there for a family. Erik G on Google organized our tours and was super accommodating & easy to commit ate with. I’d recommend using him for any tour or transportation needs. You can find him on the beach in the blue shirt. We will definitely be coming back to the Westin. The entire family had an amazing experience here!

    Do not hesitate to book!

This is a super hotel - book with confidence. We have travelled a lot and have stayed in some wonderful places and this is right up there. The surroundings are beautiful ( always someone doing something - tidying, cleaning, maintaining) lush and green with wildlife everywhere. Saw howler monkeys right outside our room! Food is really good - buffet has good quality food and plenty of choice and then 6/7 a la carte - the Italian was especially good. Couldn't get into the steakhouse so maybe try and book ahead? Pool is lovely and warm and massive - plenty of sunbeds and they will source some for you if it is busy. Beach is beautiful. See was quite choppy when we were there but not sure if this is normal? Rooms spacious and mini bar refilled daily with beer and soft drinks. Staff are adorable and super helpful. Every time we rang for help they were on i in a flash! Wish it wasnt so far away!
