Rita, the GOAT of Concierges, still rules!
The Westin KC is the best hotel in downtown Kansas City regardless if you are visiting for business or with your family. The hotel is huge, sparkling clean and a truly professional staff. If you are there for business, it is close to everything (located directly across from Union Station) and if you are there with your family, not only does the Westin have a heated pool, but it is also connected to the Crown Center with a ton of shopping, an Aquarium and Crayola playland. As I mentioned the excellent staff at the Westin, their concierge Rita is simply the best concierge I have ever met in all my travels throughout the years across the nation. Rita is such a great ambassador for not only the Westin KC but for the Marriott brand. She immediately greets everyone with her positive attitude and goes out of her way to ensure your visit is perfect. Rita is probably the number one reason why I love visiting Kansas City so much. Rita is still the Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T.) when it comes to customer service and representing the Marriott Bonvoy lifestyle.

Horrible Management
My Sister and I stayed at the Westin during one Hallmark Christmas experience weekends, which the Westin was hosting. If you are going to host an event of that size, you better be ready to handle it. They were not. The restaurant was overcrowded and at one point, we were sat for breakfast, only to be told fifteen minutes later that they couldn't serve us as they were "too behind" for breakfast. The lines to get into the Hallmark events were atrocious. They wound all the way around the lobby, up the escalator, and then upstairs in a TSA line. We had two events in a row with little time in between, so I went and talked to the Management and they said that we literally had to leave the first event, come out, and go to the end of the line of the next event that we paid extra for. I will say this, the attitude that the Westin Management displayed did not help matters. They simply didn't care. While waiting in these horrible lines, we had plenty of time to talk to others that were staying there. We heard stories of ordering room service for a simple burger since they couldn't get into the restaurant, only to wait for over an hour and a half to receive it without any condiments at all. The staff was trying to keep up and were visibly stressed. So overall, I would say that the Management is entirely to blame for a disastrous weekend. We paid a lot of money to attend this event and they should be ashamed of how they treated us.

I feel like I’m on a desert island with no hope of rescue.
Arrived a couple of hours ago, and not impressed. I understand that checkin is at four and it’s Delta’s fault for only having one nonstop flight from Boston to Kansas City that gets in at 9:30 am. But it’s baffling to me that the front desk can’t provide at least an ETA of when your room will be ready. Will it be two hours? Will it be six? Throw someone a bone and don’t be offended when we very politely ask if there’s any update after waiting for two hours and give attitude. At least throw in a free drink or something while we flounder around aimlessly in your lobby with no idea of how long we’ll be stranded. I added a star for the staff at One East who are wonderful, and who were able to tell me that it would be at least a 15 min wait for a table when I asked.

great hotel
We had a lovely stay at this hotel. The room was cleaned and smelled clean - something that is so important to me. Tanner at the front desk was amazingly kind every time we saw him. Jennifer, Jay and Tonja at the bar were amazing, too. Indeed, I have not seen a hotel bar/restaurant staff as happy as this group. Even the morning breakfast cashier was super kind and efficient. She worked alone but was on top of it nonstop -- even with early morning historians (we can be cranky). I highly recommend this hotel but do hope the wifi system can be improved. It was super slow.
