THE WORST WESTIN I HAVE EVER STAYED AT - and I’ve stayed at a few.

I can cope with the low ceilings, smell of damp and noisy air conditioning. After all this is one of those buildings that was built in the late 70’s that suffers from poor design, leaking roofs and concrete that absorbed 5 decades of salty humid air that seeped into the walls and lingers like a fart on an airplane. There’s no amount of lipstick that can be painted onto this pig of a building to make it pass for anything other than the claustrophobic, smelly “has been” that it clearly is. The musty smell makes a candidate for the next building to collapse in South Florida. Yes. It’s that bad! But for $199 or 32000 miles that’s what’s you get nowadays. But, what I cannot stand and won’t tolerate is being double charged, fraudulently for a “resort” fee that I was assured on the phone was going to be removed. I was at this hotel for from 8pm - 8am. There was nothing at this resort that I wanted for free or would want to pay for. I just checked my credit card bill and I have been charged not once, but twice. (This was after having a stand off at the front desk about the nature and secret addition to my bill. I materially object to these undisclosed charges and the “rob peter” to “pay paul” financial gymnastics and intellect of quantum physics major to understand the math involved. I simply won’t be told by a combative snotty nosed boy at the front desk that these hidden fees are “Mandatory”. This is nothing more than mafia style extortion of the highest order. A shake down and also…….illegal!……Skip this Westin. And note to BONVOY group at large - shame on you for allowing this hotel and others like it to fool customers and allow this hidden fee extortion to persist under your umbrella. Fly the staff up to the Westin Edina in Minnesota to show them a proper Westin.. Avoid this WESTIN at all costs. $58 for valet parking…$75 for Resort Fee. Smelly - Damp - What a rip off!!!!! .

    Unexpected superb service!!

I can’t say enough how special the staff at the Westin Ft Lauderdale made me feel for my 50th Birthday solo reflective beach trip. From the reception/check in desk staff Katherine deLeca (who hand wrote a Birthday card and left balloons in my room) to the roof top pool area bar and restaurant staff Emi (bartender) and Billy (who were kind and provided the best customer service listening and delivering perfect the burger, chocolate cake and scenic pictures). I stayed at the Westin with my family Christmas - 15 years ago; the service as great then but this trip it was excellent and I have to say customer service is alive and well Katherine, Emi and Billy exude it in their own individual yet Marriott quality way! Many thanks from this solo newly 50 traveler!

    Had a great stay

The experience was great on the hotel side. Leo and Alex in valet were amazing. Storme the bellhop got us everything we needed and had great suggestions for food/ drinks etc. We did have some kids that were there for a hockey tournament wrestling in the hallway, banging up against our door at 1am. But right when we were about to call security, they showed up, made them go to their rooms and we didn’t hear a peep after that. They handle the situation swiftly and professionally.

    It was ok…

The hotel was fine. Relatively clean (but don’t go barefoot in the room - floors are dirty), but a musty smell permeates the lobby and guest rooms. Pool was ok; no issues getting a chair. Seems to be a popular conference hotel. There were a lot of kids there for a hockey tournament during my stay. Most were well behaved. The restaurant was not good for breakfast or dinner. Staff was pleasant, especially valets. I would not stay here again when I return to Fort Lauderdale.
