THEY ARE SCAMMERS, CHECK BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU (TONS OF REPORTS AGAINST THEM)

I stayed at The Lodge At Mountaineer Square hotel in Crested Butte, CO over the weekend of 11/30 in room 601A. My finance proposed to me over the weekend and we had a great experience until I checked my credit card statements. We were charged a $250 pet fee, but we don't own any pets. I asked the front desk to reach out to management for me twice, once on a phone call placed on Tuesday 12/3 at 2:01pm at then again on Wednesday 12/4 at 11:03 am. I was told the person handling the situation was out sick and that I should call back later. My fiancee called in today 12/5 and someone named Dawna, claimed that there is pet urine on the floor in the room. Again, this is impossible since I don't own any pets. After a fourth call, I was provided an email address for the manager. I asked the manager for assistance, and he said he would call me back the following morning. He did not. We called, left a message, and in an hour, he returned our call. On this fifth call on 12/7 we spoke to Michael Laird, who said he did not have proof of the damage but was only willing to refund us half of the fee. This is fraud. There's no way to prove our innocence in this. All I can say is, if you decide to book the trip to stay here despite this warning, at the very least, take pictures of your room for evidence when they try to scram you.

    Possibly the worst service ever.

The good: there is a nice coffee shop on site, and a so/so restaurant with live music. The bad: Front desk is only staffed from 8 AM to 7 PM. Neighboring hotel takes care of issues after that time, but good luck with getting service. I tried calling another guest room. It was nearly impossible. It required security person and a maintenance person to literally connect a phone to that room. Keep in mind I wasn’t asking for the room number just to connect me on the house phone. If you check out before the desk opens, good luck getting a receipt emailed. It required multiple attempts. Then they put on a contribution to something called “National Forest fund”. What is that? Is it even a real charity? You have to ask to have it removed, which of course makes you feel like a cheapskate but honestly, it seems like a scam. Perhaps they could ask before doing that and maybe even tell you something about what this charity provides Housekeeping must be requested, (not unusual) but they don’t tell you when you check in. You just have to know. Once you do request housekeeping you must make a special request to actually have your bed made. However that costs extra. Have you ever heard of a hotel charging to make your bed? When I did finally receive housekeeping, they picked up one of my towels, but not the other. They left replacement towels in a garbage bag full of towels. They were clean but that kind of presentation is kind of odd. Made it seem like the staff is incredibly inexperienced and not supervised. I mentioned this at the Front Desk. So the next day they provided me with yet another garbage bag full of towels. So now I had 2 garbage bags full of towels. Of course there’s no room service or any other type of service. There is an iHome clock/charger on which you can charge your iPhone if you have one from 2014 or earlier. I mean seriously, you’d think a hotel owned by Vail Resorts could afford to replace these antiques with some $20 USB hubs somewhere near the bed. The rooms themselves, while clean look like they were last renovated about 25 years ago. They are quite dated.

Beware Lodge @ Mountaineer Square during Summer!

My husband and I had a highly unsatisfactory 6 day stay at this hotel. We booked and paid a premium price for a condo unit advertised as having A/C. Upon check-in the A/C did not work. Maintenance came up and fiddled with it, still didn’t work. The next day we were told that the issue was affecting the entire 2nd floor, but that the system would be repaired the next day. It was not. I went to the front desk and they offered to move us to a unit with functioning A/C, and they offered to comp our daily resort fee. So we packed up and waited to be moved to the new unit. Then got a call from the front desk that - guess what? - the A/C was out in the entire building. So we unpacked and waited for portable A/C units to be delivered. When I asked to speak to the manager, he was unavailable. We feel that we are due compensation for the miserable experience we had at this hotel. Beware of this hotel!

Beware of unfriendly consumer practices here

We unfortunately came down with COVID 5 days prior to our stay. The customer service representative was completely unwilling to work with us, stating that based on their policy of cancelling more than 7 days ahead there could be no refund for any portion of the trip, or even a credit for a later stay. Now we are out over $1,000 due to no fault of our own because of something that we could not have prevented and that we were trying to proactively be careful of exposing others to. BEWARE of making a reservation with this hotel. They have no flexibility and no willingness to work with their paying customers. While I understand they may have a policy, to take such an absolutist approach to a genuine and unfortunate change that a customer experiences reveals all that you need to know.

Beautiful location, but this hotel needs a major renovation

We stayed here for a weekend business meeting. The rooms are dated and in need of a renovation. The shower had walls that were peeling/bubbling near the ceiling. The towels were in need of replacing. Our room keys stopped working several times which was inconvenient. The front desk employees were friendly and willing to help, but it took 2 different visits from maintenance to get the keys to work. We just didn’t have the best experience, and, to top it off, we found a note on our windshield in the parking garage when we checked out. It made some derogatory comments about how we parked our car and actually said “learn how to park loser.” And it was signed “management.” Of course we can’t be sure who it was from, but there wasn’t an issue with how we were parked. They are tight spaces, but we were within the lines so we don’t know why they felt it necessary to leave that note. Overall, just a disappointing stay which is unfortunate because Crested Butte really is a beautiful place!
