Potential
We travelled from Feb 9th to Feb 16th, 2025. We read the reviews ahead of time noting positive and negative comments. We have both positive and negative things to comment on. When we arrived and got to the check-in desk, we talked about upgrading to the Sun Club. We read the different reviews, and some people loved it and other said it wasn't needed as there are no wristbands used at the resort. It is true wristbands aren't used so how is it possible to know if someone has upgraded or not. We did do the upgrade which had good points and bad. We were in building 1. That was bad. There is construction at the resort next door and our room faced that. From 8am to 4pm every day, the jack hammering was very loud. When we paid for the upgrade, we should have been warned as our original room may have been a lot better. The room itself was very nice. On the plus side of upgrading, Chopsticks is the Teppanyaki restaurant and the only restaurant that you can book in advance via the app and only for Sun Club. The app is very useful including ordering room service and room amenities and supplies instead of contacting housekeeping or the front desk. Some options are only for the Sun Club. Sticking with restaurants, Windows is the buffet for everyone, and it was not a good experience. We tried it more than once and each time it was poor. The service was terrible. We even had to clean our own table and ask for cutlery. The times we went were not even close to peak. On the bright side, Kaleidoscopes was the buffet for the Sun Club, and it was much better. Service was sometime hit or miss. Rarely did we get asked if we wanted a drink. The pizza shop and the snack machine were very good. The chicken wrap at the snack machine was excellent. Flip Flopz was also good. That was all of the restaurants we made it to. The rest of the restaurants are a la carte, and they don't take reservations. That is crazy. People were lined up for hours, so we didn't even bother which was a shame as there was lots of good choices. We hit every bar, and they were all good. For the most part the choices are the same but there are some slight differences depending on what you are looking for to drink. Weirdly the Sun Club Pool Bar at the adults only section was never open when we were there. Another big problem was lack of lounge chairs. The resort has a rule about no saving chairs. If you leave your stuff on chairs for more than 45 minutes, it will be sent to lost and found. I never saw this happen, however the lack of lounge chairs and shade options forces people to get up before dawn and save chairs. Once you have a spot saved, don't give it up. If you do because you want to move to a different area, you likely won't find any place to sit and the place you left will have been snatched up. I saw people out as early as 4am. I know people do this because they want the "best" spot on the beach or by the pool, but they also had to do it to get anything regardless of where. To conclude, we enjoyed our vacation and the place has lots of potential and we wouldn't mind going back but the price would have to drop significantly, or the issues addressed. We have been lucky enough to have enjoyed several resorts in the Caribbean over the years and there is better for the money.

Amazing Experience with Sun lub package.
Everything about our trip was exceptional, Jorge our personal concierge person at the Sunclub made our stay so good, he made reservations for suppers when required and ensured any of our requests were looked after within the hour. Ritchie and M at the sports bar provided exceptional service and the entertainment crew were always fun to be around. Chocolate, Miya, Ginger, Blue, Coca cola and all the rest done a great job all day and night. Roger the security person was always around and very pleasant , he has an amazing personality. Food was great, Only downfall was beds around the pool and beach area, NOT A RESORT ISSUE, were hard to get but this was down to people putting towels on them and not using them for most of the day so if you want a bed get up early and get on them. Never impaired our stay as we used the beach. 10 out of 10.

"It's the Little Things"
So, let me start by saying that typically I do not have preconceived grand expectations no matter where we go as each destination has its own uniqueness. I'm going to cover some of the pros and cons that we experienced at Sunscape Coco, Punta Cana, DR. CHECK IN: We travelled with another couple. We flew with Westjet and the transfer to the hotel went smoothly. Our luggage was set aside until check in was completed. Check in was slow and seemed inefficient, but not unexpected. Check in time is supposed to be 3:00 pm, however we were advised our rooms were not ready yet and it was almost 4:00 pm. We were told one couple would be in a building near reception and the other couple in Building 16. Building 16 is one of the furthest buildings from the lobby area on the complete opposite side of the resort. We inquired if we could be in the same building and the girl pushed their Upgrade Info page in front of us suggesting we could be in the same building if we upgraded at a cost $50 per night. For 10 days - an additional $500 per couple. Personally, I'm not a fan of "upsells", especially if the product doesn't justify the cost. Ten minutes later, my SIL inquired again and "wallah" there are now 2 rooms available in building 16. Despite building 16 being one of the last buildings on the site, the rooms were fine on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It's close to a regular pool which also swims up to the ground level rooms, it's close to a lap pool, a 2 foot children's pool and another pool with a slide. A bar is close to this last pool with the slide. There is a fair bit of walking to the various restaurants from this end. If you have a disability, I suggest a closer building. Also, after our first day there, the elevator in our building was in disrepair. UPGRADES: In reading some reviews, it seems many are willing to pay the extra. For us, it's not worth it. We don't use the room service or spa. Don't be misled on the Adults Only upgrade as you won't get the Adults only experience anyway. The Kaleidoscope Restaurant for the Sun Club Only is open to children as well. There is Sun Club Adult and Sun Club Family. In addition, guests that are not Sun Club only members just provide another room number from the member only section and eat at the Kaleidoscope Restaurant; so, what's the difference? If you're already paying for an upgrade, why would you expect any less. Paying for a Bali bed is ridiculous...that should be inclusive. Guests do not need to wear wrist bracelets at this resort. ROOM: When you get to your room, check to make sure everything is working i.e. safe, patio doors, toilets, fridge, hair dryer, etc. Our hair dryer did not work and after my third day and request, I finally received a hair dryer. I recommend speaking with customer service rather than the front desk. Our toilet wouldn't flush another day, and I asked the housekeeping supervisor for a repair; it was fixed within hours. Housekeeping was spotty timing at best. It started out fine, but as the 10 days progressed became later in the day. We usually came back to our room to prepare for dinner around 4 pm and our room was not done yet. When housekeeping would knock at 4:30, we would just pass on the service (we've been out of our room for 9 hours, which is ample time to clean). RESTAURANT/SERVICE: Service was good in some areas, but lax in other areas. Most restaurants offered good and pleasant service. My opinion is that they are understaffed for the number of guests they accommodate. Windows, which is the main buffet is okay but could run more efficiently with more staff cleaning up the tables to avoid the long line ups. I noticed several vacant tables and yet people were waiting to get in. We preferred the Tiki Taco for breakfast as they offered a good variety, no line ups and quick pleasant service (opens at 8 am). Most restaurants do not require reservations; however, Chopsticks and Le Petit Chef do. To make a reservation, go onto the Hyatt Inclusive App and click on Restaurant. You can't reserve it for the same day, but rather the following day. The day begins any time after midnight. There's a couple of restaurants that cost $. TOWELS/LOUNGERS: I read some reviews stating that getting a lounger is not a problem. Well, that depends on how early in the morning you're willing to get up. One in our group was usually up between 6 and 6:30 AM and had no problem. Then of course, we were up, ate breakfast early and hung around our loungers for the duration of the day. However, you'll always get those that will either get up early or late the night before, reserve a spot and not show up for hours on end (even have a spot at the beach and one at the pool). There are signs posted that you should not leave your lounge chair vacant for more than 45 minutes. This resort is no exception, I've seen this kind of disrespect in every resort I've been to. But at some resorts, a concierge will actually come around, take a photo, record the time and flip the lounge down. I wish more places did this. BEACH: The beach is nice in areas. There is a marina to the right, which adds to the traffic in the water. Personally, not a fan! To the left, you can walk quite a way. There's a vacant resort right next door and the sargassum is not cleaned up in front of the property. Past this is Dreams. I heard the beach was nicer the further left away from the marina you go. The vendors at the beach try very hard, some are a little too pushy! Some vendors will place their wares in front of you for minutes expecting a sale, even if you politely decline. The 2 with the parrot and iguana placed the parrot on my husband's head and iguana on his shoulder, even though they were at least 3 times told we weren't interested. Then expected payment when my SIL snapped a pic with her phone. So, in conclusion, "it's the little things" that could be improved upon and then I would give this resort a 4 star without question.

Obvious staffing issue, food was terrible but resort was beautiful.
Firstly, I want to say that the resort was beautiful, the rooms were great and sadly that's were it ended. The food was horrible, and I'm not fussy when it comes to food, everything was either undercooked or overcooked and the meat was tough. For an upgrade fee, you could have better meals, but I overheard one couple demanding their money back as the food was just as horrible. Your best option was to stay with fresh as much as possible. We upgraded to Club adults only but it was a waste of money, with no bracelets, you could wander anywhere without check. There was no restaurant that were adults only and children wandered in and out of the adults only section. There were not enough chairs for the guest, but for a daily upgrade fee, you could rent spots. People would towel reserve spots at the pool that went empty all day, even though there was a policy that after 45 minutes your belongings would be removed it was never enforced. The a la carte option was a joke as you could not make reservations, we stood in line for 45 minutes and then were turned away as they were finished serving for the evening. Finally, the service was almost non-existent, you had to get your own water, coffee and some evenings I even got my own wine. There were two servers who stood out, Zolita and Martina, they tried extremely hard but there were not enough staff to keep up. Overall, this is one of those places that could be a shining gem but until they work out problems, we would not go back. Francie Montgomery, room 1213, February, 10 - February 17, 2025.
