    Avoid Courtland Grand

There is NO WAY this hotel could earn 4 dots on Trip Advisor. I recently had a 4-night stay in a king bed "Corner Suite" for a conference. It's very important to stay in the conference hotel, else I wouldn't have taken a room at the Courtland Grand. The hotel earns these 2 stars for the size of the room (huge), cleanliness of the room, and friendliness (not competence) of the staff. Now, these are the reasons why this "budget" hotel failed to achieve a higher rating. Phone calls are not answered consistently. Out of all the calls I made, only one of my calls was actually answered. On that one phone call at around 6pm of the first night of my stay, I asked for an extra blanket, which one would normally find in a closet in the room. I didn't receive the blanket until the following evening, after I waited in line at the front desk to ask for the blanket in person. Because, you know, they didn't answer the phones AT ALL after that first call. My friends staying in the hotel also noticed that the phones were answered seldomly if at all, so it wasn't just me. But here's what really made me mad. My room was not refreshed the day following my first night. So, I tried to call - again, no answer. Went to the front desk and asked very nicely if the housekeeping was supposed to occur every day, every other day, or something else. I was told it happens every third day, unless you request it. It would have been nice to have been told that at check-in, I suppose. There certainly wasn't anything posted in the room with this information. I very nicely asked the agent at the desk if she would please put me down for housekeeping every day. She confirmed, and I went on my merry way. The next evening, still no house keeping. I called - again, no answer. Went to the front desk to wait in line, but there was only one agent and several people in front of me. I didn't have time to wait. Long story short, I RECEIVED NO HOUSEKEEPING FOR THE ENTIRE 4-NIGHT STAY! Similar to the phone issue, I had friends in the same situation. How can a hotel in a major city that hosts conferences be so incompetent and short-staffed that a guest who booked a suite is ignored?! Thank God the room had enough towels. I might have had to find the laundry room on my own.

    Better than the reviews

Not sure why there are bad reviews. For the price of this hotel it is amazing. 1.5 miles max from anything downtown and clean and nice very nice. We stayed here for the CFB National Championship and it we flew in a couple days early. It was close to everything in downtown Atlanta and my wife had no complaints (which means A LOT!). Would definitely stay here again.

    Contradictions; well priced

We found ourselves unexpectedly stuck in Atlanta 3 nights due to transportation cancellations from a winter storm. Delta airlines gave us a voucher here for first night then on our own but we decided to stay. The decor of the passageways and guest rooms is drab. Plastic cups in the guest room. The breakfast buffet is $52 for 2 people. Front desk staff were unable to book our second night on my own charge insisting that I go to the Wyndam website to book before they could do anything. But then they have a concierge in the lobby who helped us with transportation to airport during weather constraints. They have a quite nice indoor pool area with heated pool. Exercise room is ok; usual lack of resistance equipment in most hotels. There is a restaurant/bar with ok food; serving staff were a bit overwhelmed on our one visit here - understandably. There are several restaurants in walking distance as well as underground Atlanta. But given the location; room price is good - if you’re ok with drab and plastic cups.

    Hasn’t been cleaned in years!

Absolutely disgusting. The “executive suite” smelled musty. Stained couches and carpet with cigarette burns in a few places. We spent more time going CVS to get disinfectant spray/wipes and trying to clean than we stayed in the room. Restaurant/bar was understaffed with average food at best. Checked out a few hours after arriving.

    Stay elsewhere

Avoid this hotel if possible. It needs a lot of updating, and they don't appear to be doing routine maintenance to the building. There were issues with buttons not working in lifts and strange noises from the air-con. The service in the restaurant was poor, it took over 30 minutes for a plate of pasta.
