First trip to Jamacia and Secrets but wont be the last! be our last!
Our first time to Jamacia and staying at a Secrets resort, will not be our last to either! Where do I start! Okay, so we went on 29/12 to celebrate NY we stayed for 2-weeks. 1) You are greeted by the bell boys, who greet you with a very warm welcome and make you feel at home already! 2) You then proceed with the check-in process, which again you are greeted with a very warm welcome and a glass of champagne! We appreciated not having any sales pitch during check-in after our 10 and half hour flight from.thw UK. I am really sorry, I cannot recall the girls name who checked us in but she was absolutely lovely "she has blonde hair in braids and is just so lovely, thank you!" 3) One of the bell boys then shows you to your room. We had booked a garden view. Wow we're we in for a surprise! I felt a bit anxious when we were shown to a ground floor room, as I don't normally like ro stay on the ground floor! Well my anxiousness totally disappeared, as soon as the door opened and we walked in. Not only did we have a garden view, we also had a pool view and sea view. We would also find out later that we we couldn't have been more central to all of the bars/resturants/coffee shop/pools and beach! Back to.the room! The room was very spacious, light and very clean 'thanks to the cleaning team" There is a jacuzzi as standard in every room together with a shower cubical with a rain shower in and all toiletries supplied. I took my own but ended up using theirs, as they were lovely. Massive comftable bed! TV "not that you want to use it much" Decent size balcony, which is set back and you don't feel on total view whilst relaxing. Fully stocked mini bar, coffee machine, water and upon arrival, a bottle of champagne is left in your room, ice bucket and choclates. Really nice touch! 4) We started exploring the grounds, first stop the lobby bar where we met Karen "more about this fantastic lady in a bit"! The drinks at this bar are all top shelf and cocktails made here are divine! The bar team are amazing! I really can't praise them enough! Thank you. 5) The pools, wow absolutely amazing.l with pool bars and all overlooking the beach. There is daily entertainment, which is really good. 6) The beach, just wow!! As this hotel is on its own peninsula there is all coves along the peninsula. These are kept pristine. 7) The coffee shop, shout out to Erica and all the girls. Thank you so much and we miss you and your delicious coffee! 8) The resturants, we have stated in some top class hotels across Mexico and other parts of the Caribbean but none have beat this. You normally get at least one resturant you don't like! Well not here, every resturant was absolutely gorgeous. Complements to the chefd and all the waiting staff who again were all amazing. Favorite restaurant was the Jamacian resturant "Blue Mountain" the ox tail, is to die for as well as the ribs and goat curry!! 9) The nightly entertainment was brilliant and.the area in which it set in is absolutely stunning. Shout out to the entertainment team and Pace Band, you guys need a record deal, you absolutely amazed me each night you were on. You are better than some famous people I have seen live in concert! 10) The spa, well that was that good we ended up going twice. If I am being absolutely honest the hydrotherapy area could do with an upgrade, and some repairs. But, the staff who work there are fantastic. 11) We booked all our excursions through the desk located in reception, these were tailored to our requirements with a personal driver for one of our trips! 12) The views, this hotel is a panoramic hotel of the carribean sea and the mountains "stunning". Okay so I said I would get back to Karen from the lobby bar! Well where do I start, this lady welcomed us with her infectious smile and very warm welcome. We got talking and instantly clicked with one another! Her professionalism is outstanding and she is such a credit to this hotel! In our opinion, is one of the greatest assets to Secrets. This lady works so hard and always has a smile on her face. Everyone you speak to loves her, as do we. Thank you so much Karen for being you amd becoming a life long friend! Shout outs and credits - say hi to these guys from us, if you come across them: Karen aka "Miss" - lobby bar Ivan - this lovley man is on room service and is such a gent. Erica, Rose and the girls at the coffee shop Curtis - lobby bar across all three adgacent hotels. Onika - lobby bar Mr cheeky chappy at pool bar who support Man U. The reception team. Thank you all for making us feel so welcome, we will be back. We miss you all and your spectacular service! You all work so hard and are a credit to Secrets. Sorry, if I have missed anyone off!

Shockingly bad - go elsewhere
We have just had a bad holiday experience, our first ever. The positives: the staff are great, especially our butlers Devon and Adia, the room was a bit dated but large and clean/comfortable, bed, linen, towels etc were very good. Shower lacked power but was hot. Mini bar well stocked. Altitude at breathless was lovely and good food. Also ate there for lunch a couple of times, again it was good and much quieter than the rest of the resort. The not so good: We had a swim up, the chairs on the patio were a basic restaurant type with no cushions etc., so not really any good if you wanted to sit out and use the swim up you paid extra for. For the price we expected loungers or similar. During the period we were there an American seed company were providing their customers with a free stay at the hotel. So every 5 days 800+ American southern farmers arrived. The whole place felt like were were in Texas rather than the Caribbean. The music was American, big screens loudly showing American football and baseball, Ho Down on the beach with bucking bronco etc., Yea Ha! every 5 minutes. There were not enough sun beds. As we had paid extra, our butler reserved out sun beds and provided a cool box of drinks. Other people we met were unable to find sun beds and having to complain to the hotel and tour company. The food was just bad. Worst ever all inclusive food. We had just 2 acceptable meals. Breakfast is luke warm and big queues. Lunch, is a buffet, so you have a better chance of seeing what looks good and taking the better options. Dinner is only in the various restaurants, al la cart. Again our butler booked these for us, other people were walking up and then being told it was over an hour or mores wait to get a table. The house wines were poor. Cocktails ok, better at the Piano Bar but that gets exceptionally busy. Entertainment was mostly American focused, only a couple of Reggae type acts. Beaches are small, sea is shallow and there are rocks around. Sunbeds around the pool were the mesh uncomfortable type, no cushions etc., again not 'luxury'. Coffee shop was ok but limited with all drinks basically an Americano or a latte. (Not a flat white in sight) Not a Caribbean experience, would not recommend. Not 5* and vastly over priced.

Honest review of secrets
The hotel was ok and we did have a lovely trip. The food was really good and we tried all the restaurants. Some nights we did wait around an hour for a table however it was fine as they give you table buzzers and you can go and wait having a drink in the nearest bar. The breakfast buffet was extensive with something for everyone and also lots of places to eat for lunch … the jerk shack was a favourite! I wouldn’t say this hotel was luxury the welcome definitely let the hotel down. First impressions are key. There was no one there to greet you so we found ourselves to the lobby and the check in staff was the opposite of upbeat and whilst we eventually did get offered a drink it did seem like an afterthought after the couple next to us were offered. First world problems I’m aware but it’s what I’m used to. I do need to note though 95% of staff were absolutely fantastic and so friendly and helpful and one of the main reason I would return to Jamaica. The hotel is currently hosting guests for a company called becks and there are 900 guests a week arriving, whilst I had no issues with the Americans it was so great to meet all the people we did the hotel was focussed on entertaining these guests over its private bookings which does leave a sour taste, the events and activities were aimed at the becks customers and we once went down to the usual entertainment section and inadvertently gatecrashed a welcome meeting for becks. Surely this should be in a conference room? the sun beds are ridiculous and you have to wake up at 6am to get a decent spot! there is plenty of space for sun beds however they have 50% of the space taken up with private cabanas they rent out. Not only do they rent the cabanas but they also reserve the adjacent sun beds around the cabanas leaving a few sun beds to lay on.

Holiday To Jamaica
Overall the hotel was great, the food was lovely in each restaurant, the staff were very friendly, the gym was modern, complete with Peloton bikes. We felt however any extras in the hotel were excessively overpriced, such as keeping the room for longer after check out which came to 50 dollars an hour or a massage which was around 260 dollars.
