Most Relaxing Vacation Ever!
After reading some of the reviews online, I was hesitant about what to expect. But after spending 6 days at Secrets St. James, I do not understand the negative reviews at all. Yes, some pools were rowdy but there was always one that was quiet. I'm not a big party person, and we always found a place where I could bask in the sun and read undisturbed. There is something for everyone. Kayaking, snorkeling, swimming, dancing, games, tours, starfish, bars, fitness center, spa, music, drinking from coconuts, and even some quiet space for introverts to read or meditate. The staff was helpful, friendly, and learned our names. I wish we would have learned all their names so I could include them here. But shout out to Aliyah who helped us when we first arrived. Every meal was delicious. The food was amazing! . You must try the plantain porridge. Fantstic! Thank you for your wonderful hospitality!

Vacation in Jamaica.
This hotel is top notch. We love our stay. We enjoyed the location, staff, food and acommodations. This place is pristine with clear blue water and warm, soft sand. We have been coming back for seven years now and already booked our 8th trip in 2026. I highly recommend spending your vacation at this lovely spot.

Great luxury getaway
The stay was delightful. we met many nice people. the staff was attentive. the rooms were very comfortable and they kept the minibar stocked. two days we were left with fruit and cheese plates, a bottle of Prosecco and a bottle of wine. At the Preferred pool too many people got up early to claim pool chairs leaving them empty but claimed for hours. it was hard to find a chair each day.

Lovely time but…
Five of us visited this hotel for a 11 night stay to celebrate my Dad’s 60th Birthday. We have had a lovely time but personally I have felt this hotel is very expensive for not a perfect experience. Firstly, there should really be a disclaimer when booking to let you know that in January there is a 6 week period of ‘free holidays’ as a perk for American farmers. So every 5 days or so there are a new lot turning up, making the hotel very very busy. The afternoons around the pool are mostly very noisy and seems to turn into an 18-30s holiday almost with all of these guests. If I had booked this as a romantic couples holiday I would be very disappointed with this going on in the midst of my holiday. Realistically if they are going to host this event at the hotel it should only be for that within this time period to not disturb others holiday. I’m not sure that this hotel can be advertised as a relaxing/romantic hotel with this going on. All of the staff are very friendly, helpful, cheerful and try to encourage everyone to engage with the Jamaican culture which I have liked. Sky, one of the entertainment staff makes an effort to speak to everyone and is good fun. Make sure you bring money for tipping, don’t bother bringing Jamaican dollars just bring USD. Food is nice but nothing is really outstanding, our favourite restaurant was the French one as we all had a lovely steak. The Hibachi restaurant was also nice and we managed to sit at the cooking table which was a nice experience. The rest of the food was ok/fine but again nothing fancy or outstanding. The lunch time snack bar with jerk chicken and patties was perfect for a bit of lunch. Breakfast has a good selection and the coffee bar does really lovely coffee, I felt like it was just missing a sweet/dessert/snack sort of place. Although I think I am comparing that to other all inclusive hotels I have stayed in. Rooms are a good size, really comfy beds, nice showers etc. Aircon is a bit hit a miss, none of us seemed to be able to adjust the temperature. We reached the hotel around 5pm and 2/3 rooms were ready, 1 was not and we had to wait around for another hour until we could get into our room. The member of staff was really apologetic and once we got into our room it was lovely with a nice view but after a 10hr flight and a long day of travelling you do just want to get into your room and be able to freshen up straight away. The facilities are good, we used the gym most days although it did get quite busy. You can do kayaking and paddle boarding for free when the sea isn’t choppy, it was quite windy most days. There aren’t enough sun loungers around the pool or beach for the amount of people at the hotel so unless you put your towels out at 7am you’re not getting a sun bed. The beach is very pretty and the staff work very hard to remove the seaweed in the mornings. Have a look for starfish in the water near the entertainment village. Overall, we have had a lovely time I have felt that this hotel just wasn’t exactly perfect for the price. I would have liked to experience it without the extreme busyness/loud/party environment to compare the difference.

Feels like you are in America, not Jamaica
I will start this by saying I did not select to stay at this resort. It was a reward trip earned by my partner and selected by his employer. The property is very pretty. The restaurants are decent. The staff is very nice. This is a very American resort catering to American tourists. While I am an American, I like to experience the culture and cuisine of the area where I am staying. If you want limited exposure to Jamaica and her people, this is a great resort. If you prefer the pool to the ocean, also a great resort. If you want to see anything other than American tourists, don't stay here.
