Pretty good all inclusive
The hotel is well kept. Pools are beautiful. There are many bars. Great entertainment at night and customer service. Food in buffet is pretty good, other restaurants have a limited menu and are OK. A lot of people trying to sell stuff on beach, whicj can be annoying. Must have premier membership for some bars (with higher quality alcohol), pools, restaurant, certain area on beach (we didn't realize that when booked).

Went in with reasonable expectations and had a lovely stay!
I want to start by saying I had a lovely time and only have a few negative observations about this trip. I’m happy I got this 7-day stay at a discount during the off-season, as the full price during high season is absolutely wild. However, we visited friends at the Bahia Principe megaplex resort, about 30 minutes away, and found stark differences that made our group appreciate the little things that made Secrets a higher-quality resort. You get what you pay for... mostly. Given that this is billed as an adults only luxe resort, prices for add-ons and extra are over-inflated: $195 USD for a single massage is NUTS. The Good: Generally: I love good design, and the renovation done around 2020 still feels fresh. Modern fixtures, furniture, and finishes give this resort an approachable luxury vibe. Everything we experienced felt clean and up-to-date. FOOD: Overall, I loved the food! I have a sensitive stomach, but I managed to eat the buffet ceviche and sushi with no issues. There were lots of options, fresh veggies and fruits, pasta stations, top-grill proteins, an industrial-sized Nutella jar with a pump, and an entire pizza oven! I couldn’t get enough of the eggs benedict station during breakfast. Everything had great flavor, and their fries were top-tier—crispy, classic potato flavor, yum! The buffet is massive, probably one of the largest I’ve enjoyed. A++. The themed "reservation" restaurants had the best food. My favorites were the Mexican restaurant, El Patio (couldn't get enough of the chicken flautas and tamal), and the Italian/Mediterranean restaurant, Oilio (where I had an amazing filet steak). We also had a lovely dinner at the French restaurant, Bordeaux, where we jokingly told our server we wanted to try everything on the dessert menu. That sweet man brought us...everything on the dessert menu! The "steakhouse," Bluewater Grill, was fine—mid-tier compared to the others. We tried it later in the week, and by then, the bar had been set pretty high. We managed to snag a hibachi show on our last night, and had a great chef who did all the spatula flips, threw eggs into his chef’s hat, and even sang all-inclusive resort classics like "Gasolina" during the flames portion of the cooking. DRINKS: I loved getting my daily iced and Irish coffee from Coco Cafe! Mileage varies depending on who makes your drink, but I usually found them strong enough. Compared to Bahia Principe Fantasia, which used generic local liquors, I often saw Jose Cuervo in my margaritas and Jim Beam in my husband’s Jack & Cokes (Jack is for premium level only :| ). ROOM: The room was clean and well-stocked with towels when we first arrived. The king-sized bed was very comfortable and firm, and the AC was blasting hard and well throughout our entire stay. Our bellboy was awesome and set us up right with a call to room service for extra "Dominican waters," and our mini-fridge stayed stocked for our week. We were delighted by the nightly (around 8 p.m.) towel service refresh by housekeeping. I appreciated the in-room clothing steamer to refresh a dress, and I became obsessed with the room robes, which were so soft and gorgeous to wear after a shower (no, you can't take them home without paying $54 USD). The bathroom featured a nice waterfall shower with a handheld attachment, and the toilet was in a separate little room, which is a nice touch. Our room was turned daily with fresh bed and towel replacements. POOLS: I’m not much of a pool person, but their quiet pool was my favorite. I really enjoyed doing some laps and resting on the free (not premium Bali) beds after a swim. The party pool was fun for a bit—we shot some hoops in the pool basketball net and enjoyed watching people do water cycling and aerobics. The beach bar had a janky smell, and my sensitive nose couldn’t stay for more than 5 minutes. BEACH: I LOVE the ocean, and the water here is warm and tranquil. I didn’t realize how good we had it until we visited friends at Bahia Principe Fantasia, where their beach had huge waves and was difficult to swim in. A very special shout-out to RUEBEN from the beach bar—we all fell in love with him and his infectious joy and energy. He made amazing drinks, and we all wanted to take him home. I did parasailing with a friend, and that was fun! Absolutely no safety talk—they just strap you in and you hope for the best! We survived; hopefully, you can too! FITNESS: I loved doing my hot-girl walk on their treadmills. The cardio room can get quite busy in the mornings, but my gal pal and I always managed to find two treadmills. I appreciated the hidden ice-water in the mini-fridge and the ample towels. Michael from Pro-Travel Fitness and his morning beach yoga were THE BEST. ENTERTAINMENT: KARAOKEEEEE! We were often too tired to make it past 11 p.m., but we appreciated that karaoke had its own space and hosts. They played karaoke videos from YouTube— we'll take it! The Mid-Bad: FOOD: There were a few minor disappointments, but nothing categorically bad. The Barefoot Grill near the beach is meh. They have AMAZING guacamole, pico de gallo, and chips, but we found the burgers gristly and the hot dogs had to be covered in toppings to hide the mealy texture of the weenie. Fine if you're drunk, desperate, and lazy. Fries still slapped. The themed restaurants are first come, first served, and you honestly have to show up right when they open if you don’t want to wait. One thing we found extremely odd was when we got to El Patio around 6:30 p.m. and were told it would be a long wait. We took our buzzer coaster and waited until 7:45 p.m. before going back to inquire. We were pretty sure we got forgotten about, as they conveniently had a table available when we returned, and the restaurant was half-empty. Bummer! The hibachi show food was oversalted, though the ingredients were high quality, so at least there was that! ROOM: The king-sized pillows were chewed up and gave me neck and shoulder pain. Yes, there is a pillow menu on the resort app that I could have used, so that’s on me. However, I made a housekeeping request through the app that was never seen to. The glass door in the bathroom vestibule seemed dirty, with grease-like stains, smears, and drips. I asked for a wipe-down, but the door remained gross-looking throughout our stay. One of the bedside light fixtures also didn’t work. Thankfully no bugs in the room but we did see a huge pre-historic looking roach hanging out near a door in the hallway. BEACH: As a medium-sized resort, the area for non-premium guests is small, and you have to get up early if you want to get a good spot under the shaded umbrellas. The wandering beachside vendors are annoying, and some really get up in your space, which can ruin the tranquil beach vibes. I love silence, but music is often blasting at the beach and pools, so I found it difficult to read and unwind most days.

Super luxury hotel
Beyond Gorgeous, Get ready to do some major walking & get your steps in because the hotel is massive! Restaurants, food & staff are amazing one bad part is you can't make reservations so it's first come first serve & you might wait for hours if you want to do the Ala cart restaurants

Cesar is the best butler
We have just stood at secrets Royal beach and I was very impressed. The staff there are all phenomenal. We had the best butler named Cesar , He was on top of everything , His knowledge and expertise made our trip special, we were celebrating our daughters 40th birthday with many friends and family and he catered to our large group , checked on us and was so pleasant to work with. The resort was beautiful but the staff really makes the place special . Thank you Cesar for making our stay extra special . We will always remember your kind heart and sense of humor. We will miss you ..

Hit it out of the park!
Excellent resort with over the top service. Every aspect of our trip completely exceeded our expectations. Meals and restaurants are excellent. I would recommend upgrading to preferred status as the additional pools, bars and beach areas are more relaxed and more room for relaxing. Our butler, Carlos was exceptional and made our stay so much more than we expected. I definitely recommend secrets royal beach.
