Mixed feelings
The Secrets resort is really part of the breathless resort. While our rooms were nice, and the staff was helpful, it is really a misrepresentation of what a Secrets resort is. 90% of food options were at the breathless resort, therefore, with the breathless clientele. Breathless is a chain that is for a younger crowd and a different vibe. Lorena Luna was a great help during our stay. Luis at the preferred club bar was excellent and remembered how we liked our drinks. Luis from the entertainment staff was friendly and worked hard to get people involved in activities. Waiting for dinners was also a disappointment with most nights being told there was a two hour wait.

Amazing time as always!
Staying at Secrets Riviera Cancun and having access to Breathless gives guests the best of all atmospheres. The grounds are impeccable, and the accommodations were clean and luxurious. The pool is very comfortable and inviting with the best view of the ocean. On most days there are poolside bbq’s and live entertainment, or you can head over to Breathless for their high energy events. Check the daily schedule and check them out. Luis of the e-team led water aerobics, bingo, trivia, among other activities. We very much enjoyed the tequila tasting and wine tasting with Sommelier Antonio Ramirez. His is very knowledgeable and his great personality kept all guests laughing and engaged in his presentations. There is entertainment during and after dinner at the Rosewater restaurant as well. Over at Breathless you will find the other restaurant options, along with outdoor theme nights, buffets, and live music. The musicians and bands they hire are great and engage with the crowd. By 11pm the nightclub opens to continue the fun. What we love the most about this resort is the warm and welcoming staff. The GM Señor Malacara has an outstanding team. They all add their own personal touches to our vacations and elevate our experiences. We felt very important and appreciated. We had an extremely warm welcome and a super fast and efficient check in process by the Preferred Club Manger Irma and Sommelier Dayrén. In addition, there are many that stand out and deserve a special shout out. They include the Manager of the Bars Alexander Colunga, Rosewater wait staff of Jose, Lino, and Yesenia, poolside servers Cruz, Nedel, Mar, Urbano, and Ariel, pool concierges Juan, Daniel, and Adrian, our Butlers Daniel and Jesus, servers Fernando and Rodrigo at the Strip Grill, Strip Grill Manager Alejandro, Rosewater Managers Silvio and Valle, server Ester in Silk City, server Abraham in Spumante, Spumante hostess Pamela, head of the E- Team Omar, UVC Reps Claudia and Jaffett, our housekeeper Abelia who kept our suite absolute spotless everyday, Xcellerate pool bartender Wilburth, Fernando at the swing bar on the beach, and Luis in the Preferred Club. Luis has a great sense of humor and engaged with every guest, while mixing fantastic drinks. You must meet him! Thank you all and see you again soon. Next trip is already booked!

Warning: Do Not Use the Hotel Safe - It Is Not Safe & Hotel Review
We stayed at the Secrets Riviera Resort, Cancun in March. During our stay, we placed cash, a tablet, and a camera in the in-room safe, assuming it was secure. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Unbeknownst to us, someone had access to the safe and skimmed cash from it. We initially noticed that some U.S. cash seemed to be missing, but we shrugged it off, assuming we had just tipped more generously than we remembered. It wasn’t until we got home that we both realized multiple currencies had been skimmed - pesos, U.S. dollars and Canadian dollars. We hadn’t used any Canadian money on the trip, which confirmed that someone had indeed stolen it. They were careful and clever - the tablet and camera were untouched, which made the theft less obvious. From what we’ve since read, hotel safes are not as secure as they appear. Many can be opened using a master code or a backdoor key. There were no visible signs of tampering on our safe, and we had no idea anything was wrong until we've returned home. In the future, we’ll definitely be more cautious and advise others to count their cash daily and not rely on hotel safes for valuables. We’re very disappointed by our experience and feel it’s important to warn others: do not use the hotel safe, and stay alert. Here's my review of the restaurants: Hotel room - It had a musty mouldy smell likely due to water damage. We got a very good view of the pool, sand and ocean. The beach has too much ugly sargassum seaweed. The workers clearing it can’t keep up. The Rosewater Restaurant – The food was okay. I tried the fish a couple of times. The Mahi Mahi was good the first time, and the sea bass was good the second time. However, the third time, it was overcooked and dry. Coquette (French restaurant) – There was nothing particularly French about it. The food was too salty, and my French and Italian traveling companions agreed. Spumante (Italian restaurant) – Same as the French one—nothing Italian about it. Also, too salty. Pan-Asian Restaurant – I was wiser this time and made sure to tell the waiter not to make the food too salty. This was much better. Hibachi Restaurant – It was okay. It was just a regular stir fry, nothing fancy. The highlight was the chef’s show. Spoons Restaurant Buffet – We only tried the breakfast buffet. They had a great selection of everything. Foam Bar for Pizza – Fine if you like pizza on a tortilla shell. Bites Restaurant – The ribeye steak was very good. It would have been even better if they had horseradish as a condiment. The wines served at Secrets are Don Silvestre wines from Chile. Preferred Club Lounge – The best! We went to some of the shows. The only one that we liked was the Queen Tribute. All the other shows were okay. Due to our experience, we will not be returning.

Fun and relaxation all in one package
We returned to this resort specifically because our previous experience was so fantastic. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly. We have stayed on the Secrets portion of this resort twice now and will likely visit again. We were happy to see that in the two years since our last visit the only changes have been for the better. The food was more focused on the cuisine of the region rather than trying to emulate food from the United States. The hours of operation for the restaurants and clubs were also more user friendly. This resort is starting to show its age a little bit, even though they are constantly working to keep it modern. However, the guest experience will make you overlook that. We utilized a swim up room this visit and though we were initially concerned about noise and privacy, those concerns were quickly put to rest by having the ability to have a private pool session. Being able to use the services of the Rosewater staff for drinks and food on our private patio was absolutely fantastic!! Though we didnt do any excursions offered by the many companies in the area, the bellhops were able to schedule round-trip taxi services so we could visit the restaurants and shops in Playa Del Carmen for a day trip. Which we highly recommend. Quinta Avenita is a must visit for food and shopping. Last but certainly not least is Luis in the preferred club lounge. He is a lover of his craft, and makes sure to make your trip one you wont forget. He was actually the reason we decided to return to this resort over trying a different secrets location. Every evening he is there to greet you and supply you with unforgettable hospitality. His espresso martinis will have you searching for something equally as delicious and you're not likely to find it anywhere else. In our eyes it's a no brainer to make sure you stay on the secrets side and utilize all the amenities they have to offer, it is money well spent!!!
