Secrets Playa Mujeres Pros and Cons from a Midwestern 40 something
Just got back from a 5 day, 4 night stay with my husband. This was our first all inclusive experience but not our first time in Mexico. Definitely do the preferred club if you afford it. The champagne check-in was really nice and easy, they also brought our bags to the room for us and offered us drinks and snacks immediately upon arrival which was lovely after several hours of travel. The all day snacks and continental breakfast were delicious (ceviche, shrimp cocktail, fresh fruit, salads, little sandwiches and pastries). Service in the club was excellent. You also get to access the Bali beds down on the beach with concierge service, but you do need to get down there to reserve a bed early-ish in the morning--bring a book or sandals or something to leave there to show it's "reserved" if you plan to go back to your room, eat, or swim in the ocean. They really treat you well. Tip them! The sand was soft, ocean amazing, there were little to no weeds or sargassum. We swam many times and enjoyed this stretch of the beach. The room had a great view of the ocean and pool, and a very comfortable bed. We experienced an odd amount of condensation in our room which created puddles and slick spots and was a total slip hazard on the more humid days; we had to remind ourselves to move slowly. This resort is set to be remodeled and the decor is dated but it was clean and fridge stocked with soda, beer, water. Preferred club members also get one free bottle of alcohol delivered to their room. Balcony was lovely. The Coco cafe had really good coffee, fruit, and pastries and was a great way to start the day. Oceana had nice views and service but the breakfast was just ok. The best meal we had was at the sister resort, Dreams, at the Brazilian steakhouse. Be aware that there are waits of 1-2 hours for every restaurant at dinner which we weren't expecting. Service overall was pretty great; these folks are working hard to make sure you are taken care of. Tip them! They had pool side lunch options that were different every day (grilled meats and salads, paella) and it was nice to not have to go to a restaurant or even get out of your swimsuit. Drinks at all the bars were good. I expected them to be weak as that's common with resorts, but these were strong! Now for the cons: the food. Nearly every restaurant we ate at was really not good. Everyone suggested the Italian place and I don't know why because the service was non-existent and the food was so bad we took one bite and left after waiting an hour to get sat and 30 minutes for a server to come to the table. The sushi place was slightly better but still not great. I assumed it would be decent given you're on the ocean and all but it was just kinda meh. Room service, whether breakfast or the other options was just really not good. Stick to the Seaside grill for the usual chips, salsa, tacos. The pool...while beautiful, people were up at the crack of dawn to save spots which you're technically not supposed to do but no one polices it. The same thing happened down on the beach so I suggest grabbing towels and a book or something and leave your items to "reserve" otherwise it seemed hard for folks to find a spot throughout the day (another plug for Preferred club because the Bali beds are only for members and you get it all day). The pool music was quite dreadful and loud; no one needs to hear The Eye of the Tiger several times per day during what should be a "relaxing" stay. It was kind of impossible to read a book or even nap because the music is very loud and the staff do a lot of hokey games and entertainment. We didn't spend much time at the pool because of this. The restaurant dress code thing seemed arbitrary. A lot of people dressed up but I also saw plenty of people in shorts/sandals at restaurants that were deemed more formal. I didn't personally care but it's something to note. Lastly, we are 40 somethings that were just looking for a no fuss getaway and I think we got that. That being said, the general clientele was more like age 60+. Again, didn't care much about that but seems worth noting. This place had many pros and cons. I'd give it a 7/10. Not sure it meets the 5 star rating it has but the service was superb and so was the location.

Best visit yet!
This is our 4th and bestvisit to this resort and where we joined UVC. They have raised the bar since we were here last. The staff have been amazing starting with Wilbur. Our ocean master suite has a beautiful view and a lot of space. The food venues have been great and diverse. Thanks for hosting a large ILT golf group—excellent organization!

You won’t regret staying here!
Amazing service each day. Golf cart pick ups and drop offs were always quick and easy (thank you Mauricio!) All the food was excellent and the staff was very helpful during the ceremonies. Pools were fun and had great views of the beach. All around a great experience
