    Winter getaway

Had a great stay here with friends. It was a perfect escape from winter back home. The beach and pools are very nice. Excellent service all around. We particularly enjoyed the activities run by Arbey - beach volleyball, pool aerobics, and many more. The restaurants are very good, particularly for dinner.

    Gohan Sushi

The best restaurant with the nicest staff was at the Gohan sushi bar! The hostess Clara was so sweet and she recognized us when we came back the next night (because the food was that good!). Our servers Angela and Dolores were the best & so attentive!

    Ruined vacation

To whom it may concern Let me preface this letter by saying almost every person we dealt with was very kind and attempted to be accommodating with the exception of Pablo, whom we believed to be the Secrets Aura day shift supervisor. We believe we were intentionally deceived by Pablo. To add insult to injury, the experience began at the airport with Delta leaving our luggage in Atlanta. To be clear, Karla and Eric with Amstar went above and beyond to get out luggage to us on the 19th. Our gratitude cannot be overstated. When checking in on Saturday, 1/18/25, Pablo stated that he didn't have a Preferred Club Ocean View King Suite room available but , he would place us in a non- Preferred Club room that "was better than the room category" we booked. He stated the room we booked (Prefferred Club Ocean View King Suite) would be available on Sunday, 1/18/25. The room we were placed in was #1027. The smell of rotten eggs emiting from the duct work was so overpowering it affected our ability to enjoy the room to any degree, and most importantly, sleep comfortably. Upon examination of the ductwork by my husband revealed multiple toilet deodorizers stuffed through the vent making clear that hotel staff is aware of the problem, but rather than fixing it, they are attempting to mask it, revealing an ongoing problem that hotel management is repetedly failing to address properly. The smell indicates standing water within the system presenting a health hazard not only to us, but to other guests. The maintenance issues with the room, too numerous to list here, reveal an inattention to detail by hotel management/ownership that is unbecoming of the Hyatt/Secrets brand. Frankly, we expected much, much better. The mini fridge was not stocked having only contained 3 leftover cans of soda & 1 bottle of water from the previous guest. Not being placed in the Preferred Club, we found the complimentary bottle of wine, Bacardi rum, fruit & snacks were also missing. We had to walk a significant distance to enjoy the Preferred Club pool and beach area. When went down to get our room changed on 1/19/25. Pablo stated he wouldn't have the room we paid for until the following day forcing us to sleep in the same, fowl smelling room for a second night. Its unacceptable to place guests in rooms that do not contain the ammenities they paid for, and is not what one would expect from the Hyatt/Secrets brand. On 1/20/25 we were assigned to room 432, located within the Preferred Club Villas section. This room was the Preferred Club Ocean View King Suite that we booked and paid for. All amenities were as promised and expected. Having fully unpacked and settled into our new room, we left for the evening for dinner and to enjoy different areas around the property. During this time, it began to rain- heavily at times. When we returned our room several hours later, we found water pouring through the light fixture in the center of the living area (video attached). It had soaked all of our belongings on the table beneath including the rug & the couch. The pooled water on the tile floor lead to my slipping and falling. There were water stains that were obviously trying to be covered up with paint on the ceiling, again, indicating managements awareness of the problem, yet they are placing guests in the room without properly addressing the root cause of the problem. At approximately 12:30am, we spoke to the midnight supervisor (his name is unknown) to be relocated to yet another room. We were then placed in room 312 forcing us to pack up all of belongings again for the 3rd time. Everything in this room was in order, however it certainly did not include an ocean view, but rather was an obscurred pool view (see attached photo) The chirping smoke detector in the near vicinity frequently woke me at night. We made Moses aware of this when he came around to ask about our stay but, it wasn't addressed. The sound was audible outside the room, so again multiple staff were aware of it making it hard to believe that simple maintenance was a priorty one would expect from the Hyatt/Secrets brand. We tried to make the best of our trip by renting a vehicle to get away from the property. When planning this trip we brought 3 other couples with us who had all experienced similar issues. I was supposed to be an amazing trip with amazing frieds for my amazind husband's 50th birthday. Instead it turned out to ne a nightmare. It is unacceptable for the Hyatt/Secrets brand to continue booking rooms that are well outside what is expected when booking with Amstar/Apple Vacations and more importantly, the Hyatt/Secrets brand. I would add that upon checkout, we spoke to another couple whom we did not know, that had to change their room at least 4 times for due to a variety of problems including odor and water leaks. Conversations with other guests on the beach revealed more of the same. Our experience at Secrets Aura Cozumel indicates a failure at the management/ownership level. We feel strongly that Apple Vacations/Amstar has a responsibility to carefully select its partner resorts, & thus the level of detail contained herein. We look forward to your response.

If you love Secrets resorts, don't come here

My husband and I brought four other friends with us to Secrets Aura, as he and I have had great experiences at previous Secrets properties and were hoping for a consistent experience here. We read the reviews and noted that the property was dated, which was okay with us as long as the service and experience was otherwise consistent. Unfortunately, that was not the case. My husband works for a travel agency and we travel often - and cannot recommend Secrets Aura for your trip to Cozumel. Typically we can overlook minor issues that come up that can't be helped, and we aren't the "complain to the manager" types. But we also do expect a certain level of consistency with properties, and this Secrets location left a lot to be desired. Here are just some of the more frustrating things we ran into: *the app map was SO WRONG - it lead us all over the property, and OFF the property, searching for restaurants that were mapped wrong. *the resort is not well-lit and signage is lacking, making it difficult to find your way around, especially at night (see issues with app above). *when we checked in, 2 out of 3 of our rooms didn't have working room keys (thankfully it was resolved fairly quickly) *the weather was rainy our first day, and standing water was left in MANY areas of the property, several in areas that were slippery/dangerous, including staircases and the bridges over the pool. We didn't see a single person with a squee-gee until day 3 of our trip. *the "hot" water in our room (and in our friends rooms) didn't get past lukewarm at best, and was often not working at all - leading to very unpleasant and quick showers. *we only had ONE towel in our room upon check-in - and despite calling to have additional towels added by housekeeping - housekeeping never came. For multiple days. We ended up just asking the lady with the housekeeping cart for extra towels if we caught her while we came/went. Housekeeping came once during our entire stay. Our friends in other buildings had the same issues. *our mini fridge was NEVER restocked. Not even when housekeeping did come. Our friends in other buildings had the same issues, even when specifically requesting them to be refilled. *buffet food was cold at breakfast, and left out way too long at lunch - at one point when we were there for lunch, MULTIPLE birds were all over the desserts, eating off of them. No one shoo'd them away or made any effort to mitigate the issue. *when ordering room service, our toast came visibly and obviously burnt; they regularly delivered food with missing items (no eggs when they were listed on the item description, etc.) or substitutions we didn't ask for. *the hot tub by the main pool was COLD. We asked about it and were told someone would be informed from maintenance. That was on day 2. The hot tub never got warmer. *The AC unit was clearly causing significant water damage to the wall, and dripped water all over our suitcase before I realized it and moved it. There was mold in our shower but I can't imagine what's behind that wall. *on our last day, because there are no elevators in many of the room buildings, we wanted help with our luggage (we were on the 3rd floor). Bell Hop and Front Desk never answered our phone calls. *on the beach, there was only one server taking orders and he would disappear for long stretches of time. But you couldn't really go to any nearby bars, because the Barefoot Grill was actually just four picnic tables near Oceana with no signage, menu or service. *Sky Bar & Sushi did not have sushi, or even a menu. It was just one bartender on a cement roof with a couple of couches. They didn't turn any of the lights on (even after I asked, as it was night when we went up there). Very odd set up and not a very appealing place to relax.

    What a Joy!!

This was one of the best vacations my wife and I have experienced for a variety of reasons: #1 - We had very low expectations of the resort due to the many negative and IMO terribly over-sensitive reviews. #2 - The Location of the property was top notch. Good Snorkeling off the beach. Beautiful views. #3 - The Service of ALL Personnel at the Resort was outstanding, especially all the staff at the Oceana Restaurant where we ate all Breakfasts/Lunches and numerous Dinners. Does not get much better than a seaside location. Special Thanks thanks to Janely, Omar, Sergio to name a few at the Oceana. A special thank you to Norma for keeping our room in god order and clean. #4 - The Sunsets ...... No more needs to be said about that. Oceana or Windows Restaurants had amazing views. #5 - Simply put ..... Mexican Island Vibes are the best. We have been to all sorts of resorts. 3 Star to 5 Star/3 Diamond so I can certainly say that we have seen it all. This resort by no means is the best built, but it is certainly one of the best for location and vibes. We subscribe to the belief that "You make of it what you want of it". We were in a Preferred Club Ocean View Swim Up Room (Rm#1413), so our experience may have been different from other rooms. Ours was pretty awesome. Yes, the resort is showing its age. Yes, there may be some things that could be improved and in discussions with Staff will be. Yes, the food could be better but I must say that the food was good to very good. Not that it matters all that much, but the Tequila Selection was good. We will most definitely be back and would recommend this resort.
