Satisfied
It was a beautiful resort located in the central area of all the tourist attractions we went to (10 - 15 mins away) including La Jolla, Belmont Park/Mission Beach, Sunset Cliff, Balboa Park, Little Italy. The staff was nice and accommodating. The beds were comfortable. The pool area was nice. I loved the boardwalk that was just right behind the resort, which was an awesome vibe. It was quieter when we went, we got to go in the hot tubs without it being congested. My main complaint was that the first room we were in (one of the smaller buildings with two floors - no elevator which was inconvenient with hauling up luggage), the room smelled kind of musty and flared up some allergies for two people that were with me. They kindly apologized and had us check out of that room (we stayed in that room one night) while they prepared another room for us the same day. It wasn't available until 4-5pm but that was ok with us since we were out and about anyways. We were very pleased with the new room - it was a whole new vibe that changed the mood for us from the first room. Another thing that was a bummer was that the rooms did not have a microwave. They didn't have a community microwave either which was explained to us it was due to cross contamination - which I get. It was $20 for a microwave. We were not aware of the $40 amenities charge per day until a couple days before we were going to arrive. You also had to pay $45 per car, per day. I'm not sure if I just didn't look into this but just be aware of this. Despite the $45 charge, I still would have rented a car vs Ubering everywhere. Other than these minor things, the stay was great. Thank you, staff for understanding and making us have a great experience.

Beautiful but a bit isolated
Wonderful resort! Staff was friendly, grounds were immaculate, comfortable beds and nice rooms (if staying again I would do a garden view room as opposed to water view room in the tower. My kids absolutely loved the pool! Took off one star as the location is a bit isolated, there are no walkable restaurants, and we spent a small fortune on Ubers (there are lots of places, a quick uber ride away, it just adds up). If you have small children, there are two awesome parks a short walk from the resort.

Great hotel with lots to do, but secluded location
Everyone we interacted with on the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. All of the common areas were beautiful, and the food at Covewood was very tasty. Our room was big and very clean, definitely a little dated but not extreme. The pool, hot tub, sauna, and complimentary yoga class were all great. The only downside is that the location is pretty secluded, so you’ll have to drive or uber for basically every activity.

Stunk of mold. Staff was cranky.
I would not stay here again. The villa had an extremely musty smell reminiscent of mold and pets. The sheets were wet and there was mold on the drapes along with the vents. Staff was borderline rude when I asked for a refund. On the bright side, they did refund our stay. Grounds were beautiful, villas reminded me of a cheap motel.

Raising the bar for the guest experience
Friendly, attentive staff, well manicured grounds, and lots to keep the kids entertained will keep us coming back to SD Mission Bay Resort. Easy access to the bay, great restaurants, and a variety of activities to choose from all on the property.
