Great family holiday - visiting from the UK

Today is our last of a two week holiday at the Royalton Splash with our two teenage sons visiting from the UK. We have had a fantastic holiday and enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff work so hard and having stayed at many hotels in Europe and Asia we have found the service here to be particularly high. A special thank you to Carlos A and Jaz at Reception who kindly assisted me with booking restaurants and surprised my husband with decorating our room and with a cake for his birthday. We found guest services to be very helpful. If you can’t book a restaurant, reach out to them and they should be able to assist. Guest Services on most floors and the main lobby. The hotel is very busy as it’s Spring/Easter break yet it has given the hotel a good family vibe and despite the negative reviews on TA, which we were concerned about prior to arriving, we saw LOTS of families having a great time around the pools and in the evening. If you come here being aware that it’s high season and set your expectations accordingly I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. This hotel is for families primarily, I wouldn’t visit as a couple during this season. The hotel is big yet easy to navigate, it’s kept clean and the beach and views are beautiful. Some seeweed, which can’t be helped, and the hotel do a good job of trying to clear it each day. Having walked down the beach the hotel do a much better job of this than others. There were a large number of beds by the pool and on the beach. The hotel tried to stop guests getting up at the crack of dawn to lay down their towels yet they are fighting a loosing battle. If you like a specific bed some folk were getting up at 4.30am! Plenty of clean towels provided each day. We enjoyed our lunches at Grazie Italian, avoiding the buffet, which we don’t think was great and got very busy. The waiters worked hard and did their best during busy periods (12.30-2.30pm) yet we didn’t always get bread and sometimes the starters and mains came at once. Small issues that could be addressed with more staff. Angel does a great job as Front of House. The food at the food trucks was good, but the queues were so long as were the queues for the ice cream. Lots of other options if you don’t want to wait, however I feel this does need to be addressed. The Mexican van ran out of a lot of the options on the menu later in the day. We had two rooms interconnecting and had a lovely view over the mangroves and could see the sea. We had to request to move to this room as we were allocated a room overlooking the water slides on arrival which was awlful. We booked with TUI and the rep managed to change the room eventually. Avoid block 18 facing the water slides. The slides were fun although the joins were protruding and caused my son to cut his back quite badly. Some slides closed for repair during our stay. Finally a thanks to the Vibe Team! My husband and boys loved the volleyball with Leon, the highlight of their days! Also thank you to the cleaning team who worked tirelessly to keep the hotel clean - it didn’t go unnoticed. We hope to be back to Mexico one day and would recommend the Royalton Rivieria Splash for those with children and who don’t mind the busy atmosphere during spring break.

    First Tepanaki Experience

Guillermo at the zen restaurant was great! He put on a great show despite the laid back group we were placed with. The food was cooked perfectly with all of the dietary restrictions we had. I would definitely recommend a booking at Zen during your stay. If I would have known it was this good I would have booked again.

    Don’t Waste Your Money

I booked this hotel with family in mind with younger kids. We were a group of 32 with 14 rooms, 11 paid for prepaid rooms. Please know rooms were confirmed via email of all rooms prepaid and correct. Only for some members to not receive their rooms. Also no refund of the money paid. Mind you these were Diamond Club rooms. One family member ac did not work for the first night. Another family member was in the shower on the morning of departure when the entire hotel lost water and used the water bottles in the room to rinse off. Managers on duty at time of room issues were no help with keeping young children near their parents. Parents prepaid for two rooms side by side. These rooms were in particularly important and confirmed multiple times with room selection staff only for them to be separated. While working with the manager right next to the other staff hearing the manager find the family rooms near each other for the staff to assign one of the rooms to someone else. Like are you kidding me. So now we are being told they don’t want to inconvenience anyone else to accommodate our family members who’s been sitting here for over an hour for them to work this out. Three people assigning rooms here in Diamond Club. You give away with no refund a family room and don’t want to inconvenience anyone else. Travel agent on site with email confirmation and room confirmation from the staff and provides this information of each individual client who prepaid on Royalton site and this was definitely a waste of money. Agent is not to blame as she did everything right, when informed of the Facebook complaints regarding the rooms.

Good Resort with potential for improvements

Our family of 4 (kids aged 6 and 9) had a great vacation! We liked that: -it's close to the airport -our room had magnificent views -resort workers were all very friendly and courteous -beach was beautiful for the first few days and one morning the seaweed appeared The potential for improvements were not deal breakers but worthy of mention. Pool chairs: As many reviews mentioned in, the situation is dire. You should not have to worry about not finding chairs if you aren't early enough to take some. One morning I woke up early to reserve chairs, only the find water bottles placed on them by someone else. Made for an awkward situation with the family who did that when they showed up. I believe this situation is unacceptable and I did not remember having to deal with this at their sister resort next door. Food/Drinks: We had no problem getting reservation through the app, although I did it first thing in the morning. We tried, Hunters, Agave, Taj and the Rio. Most were awesome with quality of food and service. We felt the Rio to be a letdown as we had to wait for the meat to come and it was either raw bloody or well done rubbery. The buffet does not have the same variety as the sister resort next door. For example, at Royalton Riviera there were various oils and vinegars by the salad section. Here there were none. Also, when getting our omelets in the morning at Riviera we could get a half of avocado, here there were none. If lucky there is maybe some guacamole, but overall, the buffet was not up to the level we experienced at the sister resort. This resort being more expensive we expected it to be at least the same if not better. Drinks were either watered down or no alcohol put in them. General Condition of the Resort: Overall condition is good, but for a resort this young we felt it should have been great. There were cracked and missing tiles in some common areas, elevators and in some pool areas. Our jacuzzi in our terrace was slightly leaking, our bed in our room would sometimes loose its leg and it would wobble. The ice cream place had an entry and exit door. The exit door was sagging so bad that it was screeching on the floor and it would not close completely. The workers would loudly tell guest to close the door or stop using it. Next day the exit door was locked, so everyone had to enter and exit through the same door, the next day the door was unlocked again and still not fixed. A resort at this caliber can't fix a door or put up a sign? You can also find some broken sunshades and beach chairs, which I thought was unacceptable. Arcade game area: Would only work with pesos, can't use credit card. Again, that's not why we went there but if the resort provides amenities, make it easily accessible to families to use. I did not want to go back to the lobby to get pesos and possibly pay horrendous fees. Timeshare hard sell: Concierge approached us right after checking in to help us navigate the resort and with restaurant reservations. The conversations quickly ended us her asking us which morning we wanted to attend the presentations for free bowling. We said we were not interested and had to repeat it a few times and finally firmly saying it before she let it go and we did not hear from here since then, so it was really about them trying to upsell vs helping us.
