Family Vacation-July 2024
Royal Sonesta San Juan 2024 As soon as we arrived for our vacation this summer (July 2024) I knew it was like going home! Our Familia was there waiting for us! Javier was very helpful with taking our luggage as we checked in and the next day we saw our William!!! William is the best!!! Nestor and Emy(Amy) are definitely familia since we’ve been coming back for the past 25yrs…greetings us with hugs as always! Nestor and Emy were helpful throughout our vacation…recommendations with restaurants, etc. Marisol was very friendly and professional when checking us in and Eunice and Liz were always smiling and accommodating. Luis and Salvador were also wonderful and always made us feel special. It was a pleasure meeting Carolina, she took the time out of busy day , on our arrival, to say hello to us and make us feel so very welcomed! Thank you! My husband is a big coffee drinker and his favorite thing to do was to get up early every morning and get coffee from downstairs at La Bodeguita and chat it up with Nelson and then later in the day he would visit again with Nomar (Luis) and Destiny when Luis wasn’t there. Alexis(Karaya) is an old family member who always finds the time to talk to us and catch up…Joel(Karaya) who we met this summer is so pleasant and the best at his job! Everyone at the main bar is very nice! Jaime, Daniel, Ida, Wanda, Hector, William and Betsy are our familia from (Aleli) Our new familia from Aleli are Manuel and Natalia! Miguel(Director of Food and Beverage) is so pleasant and ALWAYS so friendly. Always greets you with a smile and hug…don’t lose him, a great asset to the hotel!! Our housekeeper was very sweet and always there when we needed her…thank you Indira Burroughs When we were at the pool, it was so nice to see our familia…Efrain, Ariel, Michael, Jose and Mario but our number one familia member is Carmen, she is so sweet and always makes us feel like we are at home. While at the pool, my favorite spot, Jenny and Diego were awesome! Jenny could read my mind and took care of us from 10am to 6pm! Harvey and Kayla at the Ocean Breeze…the best. I remember when Harvey was working in La Bodeguita…always with a smile. My apologies, I thought this review was sent out in September. I Love you and will see you soon!!! Sandra and Nestor Vega

A nice hotel but pool area needs upgrades
Great option if you want to be in San Juan (which has pros & cons). Rooms are nice & new, beds are comfy. Pillows are not. Pool area is in need of an upgrade- it’s fine- not exceptional but nice enough. They are redoing the beach restaurant now which should have been noted in the reservation we made as we had several days of jackhammering by the pool. Maybe that will make the pool area a little nicer, definitely need to rehab it. Bathrooms at pool needs an upgrade - 2 stalls is ridiculous- always a wait and the toilets don’t always flush. Agree with poster above on the towels @ pool - they are so stingy with them - had to beg for one extra towel for my daughter as ours were at the beach. $700 a night should allow for an extra towel or two. Service was good & our rooms were cleaned in a timely manner. Similar to pool/towel situation we requested some extra pillows and it was a fight to get them. Same with blankets. Clearly they need to stock extra towels, blankets, pillows. Breakfast was good (expensive but typical), food at pool & beach is typical (salads, sandwiches, etc.) and good. Did not eat at other restaurants on property. Plenty of options around though. We liked the proximity to get to Condado, old San Juan and snorkeling. Would return but would likely do El San Juan / same beach next door with a bit more luxurious feel and price was close.

Exceptional Customer Service
Huge shoutout to your front desk agent Janice! I was looking for a comb at the front desk and she offered me the use of her own personal comb to borrow!! This is above and beyond!! Thank you Janice! It’s people like you who make a difference to someone’s stay!

Beautiful beach and amazing service
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Royal Sonesta. Isla Verde beach is beautiful! The staff is so welcoming and friendly. They went above and beyond. The prices are high though so be prepared to eat off the property to save money. There are plenty of options within walking distance.

Could be SO much better if they just tried a little
I’ve been going to PR for over 20 years. This was my first time with the Sonesta – I usually stay Next-door at the Fairmont. This was a last-minute trip so we booked to the Sonesta. Overall, it’s a decent hotel, good location, good beach, –but there are some serious gaps in service and quality control. Good: 1. Staff is friendly 2. Bartenders or Fast and attentive even when Busy 3. Valet service is excellent and well organized Rooms are respectable- had nice views of the water. Bad: 1. One of our rooms was not cleaned for four days. 2.One of us had to go to the front desk almost every day to ask for coffee, Water, or basic things like toilet paper or conditioner. This was after our rooms were cleaned. 3. This hotel has the worst food in the world (other than breakfast). The quality of the food is SO low. Yuca fries are just fried dough, fish tacos, taste like cardboard no flavor hard to swallow from dryness. Hamburger about on par with a McDonald’s burger, but not as tasty. The only decent thing was the wings, which is what we overdosed on if we had to eat at the hotel. 4 there is NO good coffee in this entire hotel. A tragedy considering we are in Puerto Rico 4. After having to sit around and wait for up to 30 minutes to get breakfast in the morning, we stopped eating breakfast at the hotel. OVERALL Decent hotel- but needs to improve some important aspects of its offerings. Perhaps a field trip next door for management/cooks and housekeeping to get some pointers would be good.
