The good: - Beautiful grounds with lush vegetation and cure wildlife - friendly and efficient room service and housekeeping staff - nice variety of pools (large social and some smaller more private pools - nice balconies on higher level units - hotel in gated community with nice walking paths - close to 5th Avenue - room service breakfast better than other all-inclusives we’ve been to The bad: - concierge at villa 23 (Oscar) was completely useless with our requests (bookings and research into excursions, off-site restaurant reservations) and eventually started ignoring and avoiding us (the last Monday the concierge changed and that person seemed to actually care) - food was okay at times but at times mediocre and definitely not 5-star quality, there’s no reason to believe there’s a Michelin star chef working there as advertised by the hotel - front desk staff don’t seem to care much about their jobs, not interested at all about our experience (with exception of Juan who seemed to listen to our concerns and at least made an effort to help) - wifi is bad and even cellular data connectivity is bad there (hotel can at least fix the wifi) - TV has no casting option which is behind other hotels these days - hot water takes way too long to warm up - room door hard to close so need to use force and makes lots of noise, ours is not the only one and every time someone closes a door, everyone in the villa knows about it. - beach chair covers are awkward to set up and keep up; a better solution is needed Overall, nice-looking property in good area but not the level of service or quality of food we paid for. We would not recommend it at this price point.

Highly Recommend
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, clean facilities, and excellent restaurant options. We were especially impressed with our personal concierge, Fernanda Montoya, who helped with our arrangements and checked in every day. Highly recommend this resort for those looking for a relaxing getaway.

Second time visiting - probably our last
This was our second time visiting. We love the location, the peaceful, lush setting, the friendly staff and the nice, clean beaches. It is very affordable compared to other resorts in the same area. Older clientele equals very chill vibe. Older property equals dated furnishings and decor. IMO, there aren't enough restaurants, and the dinner reservation process is tedious, but the food is well prepared, and the staff is friendly. All these things played into our decision to visit again. I don't think we'll come back a third. Not because the hotel changed any of the things we liked. Only because the things we didn't like (frustrating dinner reservation process, not enough restaurants, not enough seats at the main pool or not enough pools, broken hot tubs) tipped the scale towards the negative this time. Positives: Our son proposed to his girlfriend on the trip (she said yes!) and the staff was wonderful to them. Surprised them with champagne and chocolate strawberries and continually congratulated them. We got to know many bartenders and waiters, all of whom were incredibly friendly and helpful. The adorable agoutis, the many birds, and iguanas still roam the property to our delight. A unique experience I haven't had at other resorts in Mexico. Negatives: Pools weren't as well maintained this go-round. Smaller pools had floating debris, hot tubs were broken except for one, the entertainment is sparse and not good quality, the pools that run through the property are painted blue on the bottom, cheapening the look of the landscaping, the bar wasn't as stocked as much as it was during our last visit two years ago. We were told frequently that they had run out of an ingredient. There is no place to just grab a coffee or a kiosk where you can grab a quick snack. In two visits, I have yet to eat at all the restaurants (as limited as they are) because you can't make dinner reservations until you check in and for some reason, we can't seem to get in anywhere before 8pm, sometimes being told 9 or 9:30pm if we want to visit certain restaurants. They also put a large hold on each room during your stay. While that policy is not unusual, the $500 fee per room feels high and this time, the hotel accidentally did a "sale" vs a "hold" and we are still waiting for an $1000 refund after checking out five days ago. We will cherish our memories at this resort. We will just look for an updated hotel in the same area with hopefully, the same vibe.

Best service at Allegria
The best experience at Allegria! Octavia and Rocio are amazing and we can't wait to come back!! Octavia makes the best Espresso Martini and everyone is so nice. The entertainment also never disappoints! Make sure to pay them a visit when you visit Royale Hideaway!
