Room: Double room sea view Room number: 3140 Floor: 3rd Floor Pros: - Room was cleaned properly - Most staff were friendly - Resort greenery was well maintained - Party vibes and entertainment - Great beach Cons: - Check in process - Elevator was out of order for the entire stay - Key cards for the room kept giving trouble - Lack of pool towels - Environment not too hygienic - Food was average at best - Room was dated - Room balcony screen door was a hassle to open and close Hotel transfer was not too bad. RIU Republica is away from the other resorts, it was the last stop after dropping guests at the other RIU locations. We checked in online but it took way longer that those persons who did not check in online. We booked a double room sea view and were expecting better views or at least be placed in a room closer to the beach. You can just about see the sea above the coconut trees; not much of a sea view. The screen door was a hassle to open and close, and you need to open and close it a lot since there's mosquitos around day and night. The shower was functional but a bit rusted. Bed was comfortable, pillows were ridiculous; we requested 2 more, got 1. Fridge was well stocked. The elevator to our part of the hotel was not working for our entire stay. We did not mind taking the stairs, but the issues with the key cards not working almost every day made it a chore to walk up and down 3 flights of stairs and to the lobby and back to get the door open. (key cards weren't even kept next to my phone) The food and drinks were just average and some areas were not too hygienic. The jerk shack, breakfast and the lobby bar were the highlights, but still average. The specialty restaurants weren't anything special, just a rebranded "themed" buffet. There was a sewage smell in some areas of the resort. There was such a lack of pool towels we bought 2 from the boutique. Expensive and not good quality. The beach area was great, enough lounge chairs and the area was well kept. The sea was clear but a bit rough and the current is a bit strong. Beach traders were there, but not pushy. There's a hidden tipping culture here, it's not something we're accustomed to. We noticed persons got "special treatment" from staff when tipping regularly. Staff in general were mostly friendly. The nightlife and parties were great, they did a good job with entertainment. Nightclub was crowded but still enjoyable. The crowd was mixed of all ages, most on the younger side. This resort is tailored to a certain demographic; the partygoers. This is a party resort firstly. In my opinion, R&R comes second here. If you like to party or you come with a group of friends to party, this is the resort for you. Most of the persons looked like they could care less about the food, drinks and cleanliness of the area since they're here to party; there's nothing wrong with that though. R&R can be done, but all the short comings make it had to do so. RIU Republica is an average and somewhat of a good value resort because of the price. We expected a better value for money having stayed at other RIU properties. There are many things that could have made the experience better. Depending what you're looking for for your vacation, it can be the resort for you.

Bad resort. Never going back!
While some of the staff is nice and friendly, some seem to hate their job and if you say “thank you” or “gracias” they just ignore you as if they hate what they are doing. I have been to many Rius, mostly in Cancun, and Riu Republica is the most disorganized resort I’ve been to. They have a daily activities schedule in their app but they don’t follow them. Things like Bingo, Kahoot, never happened while I was there and when I asked some employees they didn’t even know what “Kahoot” was. The entertainment team does some activities when they feel like, at inconsistent times, rarely following a schedule. The evening shows consist of repetitive Spanish music and even when they announced a Vegas Show it was changed to a Tropical Latino show last minute (with the same repetitive Spanish music). My wife enjoys dances but even though the schedule listed dance lessons we didn’t see anything near the pool and when we asked no one from the entertainment team could give us a clear answer as to where it was or whether it was happening or not (and we speak English and Spanish). They had a nice dance activity at the beach and once it was over the entertainment guy said there was going to be another one the next day at 11:30am. We’re still waiting for it. My wife was looking forward and was really disappointed. Riu needs to train their staff better! Room was ok but we could not control our AC. We couldn’t even turn it off and it got pretty cold in our room night. The pools are good but the main party pool plays repetitive Spanish music. They simply can’t “read the room” Food was ok at some restaurants but the steakhouse dinner was terrible. Steak had no seasoning and fries tasted as if they were done the day before. Spanish and Kulinarium restaurants were ok. I’m certainly never going back to this resort!

Unsatisfactory Experience
Resort was advertised as 5 star but more like 3. Badly in need of upgrading which does not have to take away from the resort if it was clean. Public areas dirty, food substandard for a RIU and service was mediocre. Buffet food lukewarm and often lots of empty items. Some wait staff ignored you. Sunwing rep did not provide accurate information for excursion and ended up costing us extra funds we did not expect. When we discussed with him he told us we had misunderstood the information even though we confirmed with others who sat in on the same presentation. He pocketed $10 US from each of us to have the bus stop at a river which was already part of the tour!! Be aware of “Little Sammie” at this resort. The beach is beautiful although there is really no service from staff for drinks. The wifi was excellent! We had great coverage over the whole resort. The website said 1300 rooms but it as a lot larger than that. The area we were in had 500+ rooms and 1 very small elevator!!!

Friends trip
Nice hotel…. Food was decent some places better than others. Rooms were ok… drinks good… most of the workers friendly but did run into a few rude employees who would try and demeand tips… if you got to the pool late there was never any towels unless you had some money then magically towels would come out of no where … would go again for the price we paid

Great atmosphere, great value!
This was our 5th say in 5 years at this property. We love the fun vibes, amazing beach and safe feeling we get when we’re there. The staff are great, there’s a ton of food options and if you’re looking for excitement or a quiet spot to relax you’ll find it here. We’ll be back next year!
