Celebrated daughter in law's 30th birthday. We had a blast..
Group of 6 of us thoroughly enjoyed our week. Never had issues that most people seem to have there. It did take my husband a day to find food he liked but Steakhouse was great. OLE' was great. Buffet for breakfast was really good I enjoyed an omelet each day and hashbrowns were the bomb.. Our room had no problems with air conditioning only had I shower with cooler water in the afternoon but other than that always had hot water. Staff was amazing. But the absolutely best part of the RIU was the AMAZING BEACH. My husband honestly doesn't like the beach and he couldn't get enough of the waves and crystal blue water. We were all riding the waves every day. Swim up party pool bar water was cloudy/murky but you had so many other pool options you didn't have to go there every other pool was clean. We truly enjoyed our vacation with Riu.

Beach was great
Great beach, great location, I like how there is a hill on the beach covered in young palm trees. This offers a great view of the ocean even from the very back row at the beach. Food is absolutely terrible, I serve in the military. We have better food in the base dining hall than what was offered at the buffet. Service is terrible, servers are clearly not trained, they drop glass and plates daily and usually don’t pay attention to their tables. I would get my own drinks because they would not tend to their tables at a an appropriate frequency. Housekeeping was lazy and barely cleaned the room. When I went to Riu, ten years ago, the cleaning staff would make origami out of the towels. Now they do nothing. I gave them tips, hoping this would motivate their work. It resulted in nothing Drinks were even worse, everything comes out of a slushi machine, like the ones you would see at a 7/11 gas station machine. No drinks are made from scratch, you really have to get creative to get a good drink. The bartenders are not properly trained and they don’t make drinks from scratch. They just mix poor quality ingredients together and call it complete. Pools are fine, well designed but poorly maintained. Flies, ladybugs, dirt and sand floated on the surface regularly

BY FAR THE WORST RESORT
Avoid this resort at all costs. My daughter is there with friends as we speak and get this: They have had no power for 2 nights, and it's 100 degrees at the resort. Then, today, they had no water. During this period, they only had one restaurant open, and the wait for the buffet was 45 mins. Management and staff did nothing. I even tried to get them on a flight home a day early. That's how bad it is. We are going to be taking legal action against RIU. DO NOT BOOK THIS RESORT.

The worst resort ever. Do not go. Save your money
Formal Complaint Regarding Stay at Riu Republica Dear Resort Manager, My daughter and I are writing to formally express our disappointment with her current stay at Riu Republica starting from Monday March 5, 2025 to Friday March 7, 2025. She is currently in room 1XX. We had high expectations given your reputation, but unfortunately, her experience did not meet those expectations due to several issues. The check in process took over 2 hours. It was true chaos. Firstly, there was no electricity starting from Monday March 3rd until Thursday March 6, 2025 (That means no AC, hot, muggy, no power to charge phones, no running water (can’t flush toilets or take showers), no wifi, keys are not working, outlets in the rooms are all bad, no fresh or clean towels and the towels smell horrible, the cleanliness of the room, malfunctioning amenities, or lack of promised services. Despite raising this issue with your staff, or lack thereof, nothing has been done to rectify the situation. How can a resort have no power/electricity for that amount of time and not have a backup generator. My daughter and other guest had to sit in the gym all day to try and charge their cell phones. How do you expect anyone to function without running water. How do you expect anyone to go to the bathroom and not be able to flush, how do you expect someone to not shower for days. This is a very poor living situation that no one should ever have to endure. All the money that each guest had to pay, your property should be up and running as promised. Pitch black hallways and rooms and they refuse to switch rooms. There entire section is in a blackout and they will not help at all and have been very nasty to these kids who paid to stay here. We tried to call 20 times and nothing but ringing and no answer or ringing then straight to a busy signal. The guest couldn’t even charge their phones. The incompetence is unreal. We have tried reaching out via email and phone and either no response or no answering of the front desk phone. They requested water multiple times and put in service request via the app and nothing was completed or resolved. People/guest had to go behind the front desk just to get water as the front desk staff was holding the bottles of water hostage as the workers refuse to give them water. They and all other guest were dehydrated. This is a huge inconvenience and a safety and sanitation problem. We have videos and pictures of everything. All the workers removed their name tags. Since there was no power, that also meant no adequate options of food and providing the bare minimum. Additionally, we was highly dissatisfied with the poor quality of food, unhelpful staff, safety concerns. This was particularly frustrating because we didn’t pay all this money, to fly down to DR to try and have a wonderful vacation, which has been bad from the start. All the workers just stared at them and said there was nothing they could do and walked away. We asked for a manager or supervisor and was told no. Us parents tried to talk to the staff on the phone and they refused. They are not providing updates or an alternative plan. They are not doing anything to compensate for this enormous inconvenience. They are not willing to move guests to rooms that do have power on the other part/side of the resort or to any sister properties. The workers refuse to speak to us or accommodate us. We believe that as a guest who chose Riu Republica for an all-inclusive and enjoyable experience, we should have received the quality of service and accommodations that were promised. Given the inconvenience and disappointment caused, we request compensation and corrective action. On your website at an All inclusive resort your promise was to deliver accommodations (i.e. an actual resort with power, electricity, running water, housekeeping service, in room amenities, unlimited meals, daily entertainment, WI-FI, 24 hour front desk and concierge service. This resort cleary failed misreable and the resort failed to provide key advertising services, which warrants a full refund. They have less than 24 hours to get to enjoy what was supposed to be their senior vacation before they graduate school in 2 months. Needless to say, the Riu robbed these girls from their vacation and they will never get back the wonderful vacation they dreamed and hoped for. This was truly an unbelievable nightmare of a vacation. This has to be the worst all inclusive resort, who only care about taking tourist/guest money I hope to resolve this matter amicably and in a timely manner. Please respond 24 hours with a proposed resolution. You may contact us should you need further details. Formal action will take place if I do not receive a response. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response. Sincerely,
