Food is the issue!
This is not a first time for us with RIU chain! The location is lovely, except the windy and stormy sea conditions are unpredictable! Lovely beach, except for the local venders that are swarming around you like pests, trying ti sell you some trinkets. The hotel staff is very accommodating, when they can understand you, very low percentage of English speaking personal ! The rooms and grounds are well kept! The biggest concern is food! I was finagled into buying the Elite Club package , due to the screw up with my room accommodation, reserved the King size bed, was offered the 2 double beds, which was unacceptable ! So in order to upgrade to a higher floor and the King Sz bed I had to buy Elite club package, that included the separate restaurant just for club members and separate swimming area and some ather perks. The food was not better than, the regular venues lots of verities, but quality very poor grade, plus the preparation is on the level of the cafeteria cafe at best! You have to tip everyone if you want to get what you should be getting for free at the all inclusive resort! Meat is overcooked everywhere and inability to get a medium rare beef burger is near 0! Fish, seafood , fowl is starting with a frozen product! The fruits are not ripe and tasteless , so are the veggies overcooked and flavourless or overly spiced! The desserts do look good, but the taste and textures are nonexistent! I’ve tried them all , just one bite and you knew it’s just empty calories! The crepes were the only salvation for a desert lover, but the sever is down right rude ( she does only crepes)! The ice cream is powdery and grainy( cheap) low quality! Entertainment is loud till 11:00 pm and quality of performers are at the level of amateurs!

Best hotel in Cancun
I can not say enough good things about this resort! The staff is amazing and always there to meet your needs. The food is by far the best I have had at any all inclusive resort. The rooms were top notch and since it is only a couple years old they are in excellent condition. There were 4 pools but one was dedicated to the Elite Club which we did not do and frankly felt there was no need to pay extra. The swim up bar was the busiest, the middle pool was the activity area and the far left was the quieter and warmest of them all. There were plenty of dining options and the best part no reservations needed. If they were busy they gave you a beeper to come back when your table was ready. The beach was very nice and no seaweed! This resort is top notch and we will definitely be back.

Birthday Celebration 🎂
From the moment we arrived we were greeted with kindness and warm smiles. The staff was attentive, efficient and genuine. The resort is beautiful. The lobby had a swanky vibe, the grounds were clean, the sand on the beach was soft with minimal sea weed. Staying at the resort gives you access to other Riu Resorts in Cancun. While the entertainment at this resort wasn't a highlight for our party, we did enjoy the small joys the resort provided like featured cocktails of the night, pop up stand at the pool area, fitness classes, and themed party access at other resorts with shuttle transportation. We were a group of 3 with different dietary needs and we all found things we could enjoy at the Don Julio Buffet. The breakfast was my favorite, omelett station, and juice bar were top tier. In addition to the buffet there were 5 sit down restaurant to choose from we tried 3 of them Krystal's by far was our favorite the short ribs of beef was tender, everything we at was flavorful. Yhe quality of the food was impressive for an all inclusive resort. The bars were stocked with premium alcohol choices. Espresso Martis were among our favorite. Riu Kukulkan is smaller than the other locations it offers a more relaxing vibe, with less crowded pool areas compared to Riu Cancan or Caribe. We also noticed that those locations did not have the same premium liquor options. If you're traveling as a couple or a group this resort has something for everyone to enjoy. We highly recommend checking it out!

4 star review
Great hotel to stay in if you are looking for quiet nights. There's some evening activities, but everything winds down by 11 pm local time. Food is okay. The evening restaurants give you an opportunity to sample unique cuisine, while still having typical food options if you'd like. The only reason why I'm only giving 4 stars is poor communication between the sales office (off-site) and the front desk. I had to adjust my stay by 1 day (due to flight issues getting there), but the front desk did not adjust my stay until the very last day, even though the sales office had more or less okay'ed the adjustment (after talking with Southwest Vacations). The whole adjustment process was not made very clear to me, resulting in several discussions with front desk people (some of whom were very helpful and understanding) and several back and forth phone calls with Southwest Vacations. If you use Amstar for airport transportation, there are reps there every day to help you get back to the airport. You do need to communicate in person and verbally with the bellhop when you are waiting for the shuttle to take you back to the airport on your departure day. (they almost left without me, even though I was standing outside)
