A Nightmare Stay: Mould, Health Issues, and Missing Items
I deeply regret choosing Hotel Riu Ocho Rios for what was meant to be a once-in-a-lifetime family vacation. Our stay from 12th to 23rd December 2024 was nothing short of a disaster, with significant health risks, substandard room conditions, and poor support from the hotel and TUI. Upon arrival, our room (1316) had a strong damp and mouldy smell caused by a sewage leak from the room above. Despite attempted repairs, the mould was extensive, leading to severe health issues for my children and me, including stomach aches, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Photos and videos of the conditions speak volumes about how far this falls from 5-star standards. On top of this, mould ruined personal belongings like my jacket, which the hotel attempted to clean but left me needing professional cleaning. Multiple attempts to contact the hotel were futile as listed phone numbers were non-functional. What makes this even more frustrating is that the hotel staff management admitted the mould problem was an ongoing issue and professional services had been employed to clean it. Allocating a room they knew had risks, especially to a family with young children, is unacceptable. For the £8,000 GBP we spent on this holiday, we expected much better. Instead, we got health issues, damaged possessions, and zero resolution. I cannot recommend Hotel Riu Ocho Rios and urge others to look elsewhere.

Holiday of a lifetime
Had a fabulous time at this hotel, the staff all work incredibly hard to keep high standards. There were a few smaller grumbles but overall my family and I had an amazing time. Room We had a standard double, garden view. Clean, bright and spacious. We also had the bonus view of the ocean from our room which was amazing. The optics are a lovely touch. The only negative was no tea drinking facilities. Tea being a staple part of the British diet means a kettle, or any machine that can heat water is a necessity. We reported our coffee maker as broken at the start of the holiday, later that day we returned to it plugged out. No replacement or explanation. Luckily tea is on offer at the restaurant so i had my morning brew there. Food/Drink I had read a early on, a few negative reviews regarding the food. Yes, it can get samey, yes it might not be as authentic (spice wise) as you'd get outside the hotel but in my opinion, this is all large all inclusive resorts in general. They have to cater to the masses which is very hard to do. If you are a foody, you may not be overhwelmed with the food but i had no complaints. At the end of the day, if you manage your expectations accordingly, you wont be disappointed. There's plenty of choice, my 9 year old that's pasta mad, even left his comfort zone and tried more of the Jamaican cuisine. They have 4 a la cartes as well. Steakhouse, Italian, fine dining and Asian less choice as set menu's but food and portion sizes were lovely. Huge array of cock/mock tails. There is literally something for everyone. Pools We only used the family pool near the Pepes Jerk place. We did the swim up bar once or twice but found it a little wilder with certain american and canadian tourists enjoying the spirits a little too much! Often daytime entertainment around these pools, fun games for kids or adults or pool games. Music but not super loud, and DJ from around 3-4:30ish. Again not crazy loud music, family friendly. And if you wanted total peace and relaxation, there are other pools are quieter parts of the hotel, or the beach, which was very spacious. Not over run with loungers. Grounds workers worked tirelessly keeping the beach tidy at all times. Entertainment Incredible. White/neon party and the foam party were the highlights. Again, dedicated, hardworking staff that went above and beyond to ensure you had a good time. Staff Although hardworking, some were in need of some basic customer service training!

Fantastic location and hotel was perfect. Hospitality in terms of the waiters and waitress excellent service overall.
The hotel room was perfect and very clean. The room mades kept the room very clean on daily basis. The always made the hand towels in a shape of an animal with flower petals on the bed which looked very creative. The hotel staff work hard from the room mades down to the waitresses and bar staff. Food was excellent and you were spoilt for choice. The entertainment was excellent. There was always something going on a daily basis whether it was night or evening entertainment. All staff was always courteous, helpful, pleasant and polite.

Brilliant hotel
I really enjoyed my stay. My room attendant was absolutely wonderful she makes our extra special with all the decorations she placed on our beds . The restaurant staff were very friendly and helpful, however some of the receptionists could benefit from a little more training. On more than one occasion I visited the reception and had to seek the staff attention while they were just standing having a casual conversation between them.

Entertainment ppl best
Reception was lacking friendliness. Room was very clean but no water in room. Buffet always something for picky eaters. Beach nice. Italian restaurant excellent. But what made our trip was Richard “Tights” and Jason with entertainment.
