Riu Cancun Stay
We stayed in late Feb/early March & our stay was really good. Lambeth in the buffet restaurant was really friendly & attentive. All other staff were friendly & more than happy to help. Our room was clean & tidy & using the app to order extras for the room works really well. The only slight negatives I have is that the swim up bar was always so busy & the pool was packed to the point that we never actually attempted to get in. Also, the lifts get really busy & you can wait for some time. We did the hotel check in on the app prior to arrival which made our check in quick & easy. All in all we had a brilliant stay & would definitely return.

We got scammed here
I’ve stayed at many RIU hotels and have always had a positive experience, but unfortunately, my recent stay at the RIU Cancún was extremely disappointing. We paid for transfers to the hotel in advance, but upon arrival at the airport, we couldn’t find the transfer service. After calling the provided number three times, we were told to take a taxi and that we would be reimbursed. The taxi ride cost us $175 USD, which was an unexpected and frustrating expense. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff basically told us there was nothing they could do about it, leaving us to deal with the situation on our own. Additionally, the pools were not properly maintained. Over the course of three days, we saw the same piles of trash near the pools, and the area around the pools was not clean—it was filled with sand and had an unpleasant smell. This is not the standard I’ve come to expect from a RIU hotel. I’ve always loved staying at RIU properties, but because of the lack of assistance and poor cleanliness at this location, I’m really upset and will unfortunately not be returning in the future. I hope this feedback helps the hotel improve its services for future guests.

Decent little get away.
Overall it was a decent stay for the price. However we were on the 13th floor which does not have much of a view. A very tall wall blocks the view to the beach area. IF you’re tall enough, you do have an Ocean View. When it came to dinner time, at the restraunts, not the buffet, the menus were pretty limited. Then we saw plates being delivered to tables with entrees much more appetizing than the menu options. Like there is a “hidden” menu or something. For example, a noodle entree at the Japanese restraunt looked pretty plain on the menu, but the table next to us ordered it, and it came with fried shrimp on top. It looked pretty good. There is Two very small beach areas on each side of the pools. And because the way the pools come out into the water, there isnt really anyway you can walk up or down the beach. Our last day there, Spring Breakers had arrived. So you can imagine the drunkenness that we saw. Puking in the pools and bathrooms, passing out left and right. Next time i think we will stay at Riu Palace Penicula, or Caribe. The beaches there were beautiful!
