Overall nice resort but clearly not a 5 star. Food quality and availability is good. Beach is great. Animation is very poor and staff is not always speak english or french. Very hard to understand even at front desk during check-in. Rooms are old and due for repairs.

Family Christmas trip
Overall, it was a good week spent here. No complaints on rooms or food. The booze was a little lower end than we were expecting for a Riu as we have stayed at a lot of Riu's over the years. You can always find room on beach and pool. You can always go grab your own coffee, hot chocolate, and expresso at any of the machines all around property. Sports bar always has snacks you can grab any time. Complaints: The kid show before the main show at night was very loud!! You couldn't even carrying on a conversation in lobby bar which was quit a bit away. Also, very loud music in adult pool that got overwhelming. It was hard to use app for some services and good for others. Some requests would come right away and some wouldn't come at all. The resort appearance outside could use some maintenance , but rooms were very clean and updated.

Jan 01, 2025**Pleasantly Surprised at Riu Bambu!**
We stayed at the Riu Bambu from December 17-24, and after reading so many negative reviews, I was a bit nervous about what to expect. However, I was pleasantly surprised! **Check-in & Room** Check-in was a breeze. The front desk staff greeted us with warm smiles, and the bellboy was quick to assist with our luggage. Our room was a bit dated but spotless and fresh. The air conditioning worked wonders, and the shower was always hot with plenty of water – which was a huge bonus! I’m also thankful I brought a converter for my blowdryer, and the USB charger by the bedside was very convenient for charging our phones. **Staff & Service** The servers and bar staff were fantastic. A little respect goes a long way, and we were treated like royalty! It’s worth mentioning that tips are pooled and shared amongst all staff, which fosters a great team spirit. Everyone worked hard to ensure we had a memorable stay. **WiFi & Entertainment** The WiFi worked well throughout the resort and most of the beach. The entertainment crew really made our experience special. They went above and beyond to make my daughter and I feel welcome, even dragging us up onto the dance floor. We had a great time with the activities and loved how involved they made us feel. **Food** We stuck to the main buffet, so we can't comment on the specialty restaurants, but the buffet food was decent. No reservations are required, just show up and wait for an open table, which worked fine for us. **Beach & Activities** The beach was stunning, long, and beautiful. While there are plenty of vendors, a simple "no thank you" and they move along. We also enjoyed the beach volleyball that went on all day – great fun! **Room Amenities** Our room was always well-stocked with beer, water, and soda. A small tip kept the supply coming, and we were never without. Overall, we had a wonderful vacation at Riu Bambu. While it might not be perfect, it was more than enough for a relaxing, enjoyable holiday. I would definitely recommend this resort, especially if you're looking for a stress-free beach getaway!

Had the BEST time!
What a great place! The small things like the safe didn't work and 1 dresser drawer wouldn't open were nothing for all the fun we had!! Locked passports and $ in suitcase and payed no attention to drawer! Deluxe family room was lovely (block 90) and so close to the amazing beach!! Lots and lots of beach volleyball fun. I dream of the ocean 🌊 . Snorkeling excursion so cute! Surfin swim up bartender Johnny will have me travel back to this hotel 😁. Great fun, friendly service. Both the buffets were great and servers forever missed!! Entertainment crew is so fun! Pools are amazing and clean. The loungers in the pool were a 2nd fav. spot, aside from pool bar. Would definitely return!!

Jan 01, 2025STAY AWAY FROM- DO NOT COME HERE
This was a horrible experience, so much so that we will not be returning the DR again. We have never experienced such poor treatment or service in our experiences travelling. The check in staff were quite rude. Our room was quite awful, with room for 3 people to sleep not 4. When we tried to get a room change they acted like they didn’t speak any English or understand what we met . We made due with the space we had but froze all night and had to beg for blankets . To be honest we had to request simple things like bottled water to our room multiple times throughout the day and they wouldn’t bring it . The toilet kept breaking , the door to the patio was a a joke also broken . Mold along the grout on the tile . Musty smelling . The room was awful. The staff at the resort are angry and cranky people to be honest . There are a handful of staff that know good customer service , the rest of them were downright rude even after we tipped quite a lot . We stopped tipping day 2. Honestly we spent about 9K CAD to to this over Christmas with our family and looked forward to a great time but instead were treated horribly, got sick from the food and the drinks and just couldn’t wait to come home. I will never visit another RIU based on this experience nor will I visit the DR again. The one nice thing about this trip was our family all found unity in how much we hated the resort 😂
