Stay here when visiting Norfolk
Stayed here to visit some of the local hospitals. The hotel was clean and on the Riverwalk which was nice to take a stroll after dinner. There are a ton of restaurants in walking distance as well as a boat that you can pay to take you across the river. They have nice fireplaces to sit at after dinner. Comfortable beds and wonderful showers. Will be staying here from now on.

Worst experience at a hotel
I stayed at the Marriott Bonvoy in Portsmouth from 10/10-10/13 for a conference. The conference booked a block of rooms for conference attendees, so I booked a stay there. It was a big mistake. Problems with our stay: 1. We arrived at 7pm on 10/10. Our reservation had been deleted. The front desk staff couldn't tell us why. We were booked into room 1008. 2. The room had the following issues-bathroom sink made a gurgling noise that lasted approximately 2 minutes after each use. The refrigerator wasn't working. The door's deadbolt didn't engage. The electric panel behind the headboard stopped working so the lights and the USB ports stopped working. The hotel sent an engineer up to try and fix the door. When I went down to talk to the front desk manager, my sister-in-law was locked in the room from the inside. it took the engineers about 5 minutes to open the door. We were moved to another room. 3. On 10/11 AM, I went to the first floor for coffee before leaving for the conference. I made a cup of coffee and got a muffin and 5 chunks of pineapple. Although the restaurant manager saw what I was doing she didn't approach or correct me-she sent one of the employees to tell me that the muffins and fruit were for paying customers. I apologized and told her that I would not be paying for the muffin and fruit, and I wouldn't eat them. She took the muffin and fruit off my table. I was allowed to get 2 mandarin oranges-the fruit was on the table beside the coffee bar. 4. On 10/12 AM, I went to the first floor for coffee. I asked the hostess if we were allowed to get a piece of fruit. The hostess said yes, so I got a 2 mandarin oranges. The restaurant manager came out and told me that we needed to pay for the mandarin oranges. I informed her that the hostess told us that we could have fruit so I would not be paying. She asked me if we had a breakfast voucher, I said yes (we received one the day before when were moved to the new room) and we could bring it to her later. She told us we could keep the fruit. 5. On 10/12 PM, we returned to the hotel only to discover that we had been checked out of the room!! The front desk staff wasn't helpful at all. My sister-in-law was referred to a manager who couldn't tell us why we had been checked out. Fortunately, none of of our possessions were removed from the room. We were comped 1 day for our inconvenience but I will not be staying at this hotel in the future.

Friendly staff and excellent surroundings
The room was beautiful and overlooked the bay. The only issue I had was that my room was not made up daily. The staff was very helpful and able to answer my questions. The food was very good and had a good variety, the price was reasonable. I took my food to the room

Try the Fairfield...
Think about booking here and then...RUN. I'm an Ambassador Elite member which shouldn't matter except to say I spend a lot of nights in Marriott hotels around the world. First off, they are doing renovations. That's cool, all places need some love after time. But to make you walk across floors that are more sticky than a Frat House floor to get to the elevators is crazy. Throw down some carpet runners! Second, no coffee products in the room. Coffee maker is staring at you but not coffee or even cups. Third, I had to crawl around on my hands and knees reaching into a dirty and disgusting access panel that was left off to plug in all of the lights and the power for the nightstands. Fourth, there is only parking for hotel guests on the 2nd and 5th floors. So when I arrived I had to park on the 5th floor. No big deal the elevator was right next to my parking spot. Fast forward to check out. The elevators are out of service. Which isn't ideal since I have a disability but up the stairs I go. I wasn't expecting a video game level quest to the top of the stairs as I had to dodge dead birds, human feces, urine stains and drug paraphernalia on the way up! The front of house staff was wonderful to interact with and the food in the restaurant was really good but certainly not good enough for a return to this property.

House Keeping drop the ball
During our stay, my wife and I, was celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary, housekeeping didn't clean our room, we had mentioned it to the cleaning team what we needed, but they did not prevail. We were a little upset when we return to our room, had to wait until towels were brought up, the room never got tidy up. This should've not had happened, for a whopping $831.52 for 2 nights.
