Real basics missing or failed
Some real basics missing here. Five trips to the front desk SO FAR, and still do not have two sets of working key-cards for access to our room and the elevator -- separate keycard req'd for elevator, and they cannot make their system work. No coffee or water for guests in lobby, as so many hotels -- many cheaper than this! -- these days provide; only for conference attendees, nothing for regular folks, and only one caffeinated coffee pouch was provided, so we couldn't even get free cheap watery coffee together. No menus or restaurant info in the room.

Terrible experience
I got downgraded from tower queen bed to cheaper main double bed for no reason. They straight up tell you to take the double bedroom with no remorse or apologize cause they know there is nothing you can do about it. They won’t refund you either cause reservation was done through Expedia or some other website. I had called a night before to confirm my reservation and none of this of mentioned. WiFi is not free. $15 including tax. Valet is $59+some 20-30% tax. Ridiculous. The phone in the room did not work. I could not call valet or service desk. Main building is old and dirty, I did not see any other customers except us on my floor. Had a terrible experience.

Long wait to get my room key.
It took 25 minutes to check in and get my room key. This was with 3 desk people. The hotel is good sized with a small market in the lobby area. Handy for a quick bite. Centrally located and within walking distance of many things. The room was clean with a nice bed and excellent shower.

There’s no customer service, but I did see a mouse
Well, I’ve been at the Marriott Downton Philly for an hour and a half. It took them an hour to check me in, they gave me the wrong room key twice, and I saw a mouse running around in the hallway while walking to my room. The front desk didn’t even say sorry.

OK stay with negative surprise of internet service charges
First off, we learned the valet parking at the hotel was full the moment we arrived at the lobby. Even though valet parking was $69/day, and it was full. Quite surprising. The big plus at this location was the Reading Terminal Market which offers such a good variety of foods and goodies. It's just steps away from the hotel. The Terminal market is also the reason why the parking is always full especially on the weekend. Another surprise at Philadelphia Marriott Downtown is the service charge for internet service even though it should have been free. The login process stated that it would be free if we logged in with our Bonvoy account, and even though we used our Bonvoy account for this same purpose, we got charged $13.99 for internet anyway. If this is the trick that Philadelphia Marriott Downtown got up its sleeve, it's a terrible one for visitors. Image Philadelphia Marriott Downtown charged $13.99 per day per room for internet regardless of its stating as a free service, this would be quite a nice profit. This is the first time ever we got charged for using internet at a hotel. It has always been free, and it should be. We dot not recommend Marriott anymore, or at least this Philadelphia Marriott Downtown location. We will certainly think twice next times we book a stay at Marriott in general.
