Worst stay
Probably the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. From the moment we checked in, we were "greeted" by a very grumpy lady who was obvious that she hated her job and was annoyed that we had an issue with our room. Our reservation was for a room with two queen beds which was not honored. We ended up with a room with one bed and a very uncomfortable roll-away bed with a very thin mattress wrapped in plastic that smelled like urine! We tried to book other hotels but everything in that area was sold out so we had no choice but to endure the uncomfortable stay in a very dated, smelly and noisy hotel room. When we checked in, we provided a credit card for incidentals which is a common practice and the charge is usually voided upon check out. Not in this case! To our surprise a $200 charge showed up on our credit card bill even though we had no incidental charges during our stay. After wasting long waits on the phone over several days on hold trying to resolve the charge, we were never able to speak to anyone. We are now disputing the charge with the credit card company. Do yourself a favor and avoid this horrible hotel.

Love the Sonesta!
I can recommend the Royal Sonesta on P Street! I was traveling solo last weekend, staying at this hotel. It used to be a great Palomar where I stayed many times. As a Sonesta it is also very well run and great as well. The front desk is extremely professional and accommodating. I love this hotel. The staff are all very nice. The location is perfect. Walking distance to Rock Creek Park, Georgetown, downtown, museums, DuPont Circle metro, and the boat basin. I had plans for all three dinners, Thursday through Sunday so was not able to try Certo for dinner. However, Certo is fantastic for breakfast. Will be returning in September when the pool is open and hope to try Certo for dinner.

Great stay in Washington DC
Service was impeccable and staff was friendly. Thank you Maxwell for the check in. Room was spacious and spotless Location is fantastic too near Dupont Circle. CERTO restaurant is good for breakfast and dinner thanks to Aziz, Bony, Neils, Noises. The location was close to many restaurants and good coffee and tea shops. Will definitely stay there again and won’t bother looking anywhere else.

du Pont Circle Hotel
I enjoyed my business trip to DC and my hotel the Royal Sonestra du Pont Circle. The location was great and just a short walk to the Red Line at du Pont Circle. The room was large and comfortable. The manager Simon Lee was very helpful and desk clerks Maxwell McCullough and Ray Price were efficient and helpful and greeted me by name. Highly recommned.

The difference between two rooms
First time at this hotel and initially we were booked into room 214. Despite this being on the second floor, this was a ground level room. The room was very, very small and the view from the large window was of the loading dock of the 10 story building across the dead end alley...about 40 feet. The only way to see the sky was to lie on your back with your head next to the window and look up...then you could see a sliver of blue. The bathroom was a combination shower/bathtub. We decided to tough it out but the next morning we discovered the loading dock was also the designated smoking area with employees sitting right outside the window. That was enough. A complaint to the desk got us a new room on the 10th floor, still overlooking part of the alley but the sky was visible. The room was 3 times larger than the first room, bed was fine, pillows fine and very clean. The single ice machine for the hotel was non functional and both rooms had only one chair even though two people were booked, so one person had to sit on the bed. The door staff were amazing and very helpful. Rating of 4 out of five is based on bigger room.
