JW Marriott with cheap renovations and dated design
The Resort was built in the mid ‘80s and some of the original design has never been updated. Popcorn wall and ceiling texture, door knobs from the 80s, narrow hallways and furniture in the room that isn’t functional. I’ve stayed at Courtyard and Hampton Inn properties with nicer rooms. This is NOT a $1000/Night property. Grounds are beautiful but they didn’t even do the bare minimum when they last updated the rooms.

Great tennis program!
Tennis, tennis, tennis. Can’t get enough of the great program at the JW Marriott in Palm Desert. Had so much fun with classes instruction and private lessons from Roger. He’s the best! Couple this with multiple days at the Indian Wells tennis tournament and it was a glorious weekend. Thank you, Roger, thank you, Jim. Thank you Pat and thank you to the JW Marriott!

Service Excellence! What a refreshing experience🌞
My husband and I first visited this property last year when we came to Palm Desert for the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament. My quick slice was “this place is too large … there is no way it’s going to provide the experience we expect when we are on vacation”. We were pleasantly surprised 😊so much so, that we returned today for another week stay while we visit the area and attend the tennis tournament. Wow, the staff that greeted us and accommodated my very particular needs when it comes to a room, excelled and exceeded any expectations we had. Kara , the Front Desk Manager, Israel and Daseli who work behind the front desk and checked us in went above and beyond to make sure we were happy with our room. Not an attitude at all. That is so rare these days that I felt the need to acknowledge them in this post. The property is magnificent and the rooms beautifully decorated however, even with that, if the staff doesn’t perform in a way that makes you feel welcomed and appreciated, you can have a sub par experience. Marriott of every member of your staff operated like these folks, you would have only 5 star reviews. We had two gentlemen, Jack and Randy, help us with our bags. They too, delivered. If I was sent in as an undercover for Marriott Corp, some folks would be getting a raise. I would imagine all of this might be a reflection of the Hotel Manager. It can’t be an accident. The grounds are so well maintained and not a speck of dirt anywhere. I’ll stop gushing. Just feel confident that this is an excellent choice if you visit Palm Desert/ Palm Springs.

Place has gone downhill-not maintained
Terrible experience- the place has completely gone downhill. We arrived and had shower issues. The next day toilet problems and on Wednesday, the fan stopped working. Got tired of calling maintenance. They said if we would have called they would have given us some compensation. We told her we did - she didn’t care. Marriott used to be synonymous with quality. Not here, not anymore. Sad.

Average and Overpriced
Attended a conference here. Really expected better from JW Marriott. Wildly overpriced for what it is. Very noisy with lots of families with small children (room was supposedly on a "quiet" floor but could still hear children running down the halls at 6:45am). Door to room was paper thin. The room itself wasn't bad (bathroom was nice, in fact, with good lighting and separate bath and shower, and no horrible shower curtain!) but with rates starting at $650, it was nothing special. Perhaps most disappointing was the food and wine program. Restaurants are again hugely expensive, but with entirely forgettable and unimaginative fare. The wine list at the Rockwood was equally disappointing. You shouldn't have to pay $300 to get a decent CA wine. Whoever is in charge of the wines really should get out more. Not everyone wants to drink Caymus or its many (mediocre) imitators. Service was generally efficient and friendly (except maybe the yahoos at the driving range, who really could barely be bothered, but whatever). On the other hand Ariel at Rockwood Grill was a standout; super friendly and accommodating. But in the end, can't really recommend the JW. Either find a cheaper (and likely better) place or spend the extra to get the real deal. This ain't it, IMHO.
