A Beautiful Beach Getaway with a Few Rough Edges
This was our second visit to Iberostar Tucán during Canadian spring break, and once again, our family of five had a memorable time. We stayed in a Family Room, which included two interconnected bedrooms—perfect for traveling with kids. While there were definitely standout moments that made our trip special, a few maintenance and service issues were hard to overlook. First, the highlights. The beach here is absolutely stunning—soft, clean sand and crystal-clear water that feels like paradise. The pool infrastructure is also fantastic: spacious, clean, and well-kept, making it an ideal place to spend the afternoons. The breakfast buffet deserves a special mention for its wide selection. Whether you're into tropical fruits, classic eggs and bacon, or local options, there's something for everyone to start the day right. One of the most charming and unique aspects of this resort is the wildlife that roams freely throughout the grounds. It's like staying in the middle of a tropical nature park. We saw peacocks, capybaras, flamingos, iguanas, turtles, monkeys, macaws (araras), fish, and coatis. It's a true spectacle that keeps both kids and adults entertained every day—an unexpected highlight that adds so much character to the experience. The staff also made a lasting impression. Benito and Marcos at the Tulum Restaurant were warm, attentive, and made dining enjoyable. Julia, the hostess at the Mexican restaurant, greeted us each time with a genuine smile and kind words. And Victor, who took charge of the music at the pool, kept the energy just right with a fun and memorable playlist. Their service and personalities really added a personal touch to our stay. That said, there were some drawbacks. While room cleaning was generally good, we did encounter an odd issue—numerous dead bees in the hallway outside our room, which remained for about three days before being cleaned up. It suggested a maintenance issue that could have been handled more promptly. Speaking of maintenance, the hotel is beginning to show its age. While the common areas are well maintained, the private spaces—particularly the bedrooms—could use more attention. Our room’s air conditioner struggled to maintain a comfortable temperature. Maintenance staff responded quickly when we reported it, but unfortunately, they weren’t able to resolve the issue during our stay. Similarly, the water pressure in the shower was consistently low, making it difficult to enjoy a warm, relaxing rinse after a long day at the beach or pool. Dining was another mixed experience. The themed restaurants felt uninspired, with a fairly mundane selection of food that didn’t live up to the rest of the resort’s charm. We also found the wine list to be disproportionately expensive for the quality of wines offered, which was disappointing for a resort of this caliber. Despite these issues, we still had a lovely time and would consider returning. The natural beauty of the property, the unique wildlife, a few standout staff members, and great beach and pool experiences helped balance out some of the resort’s aging infrastructure and service hiccups. Iberostar Tucán remains a solid option for families looking for a laid-back, beachside getaway—but a little more attention to detail could make it truly exceptional.

Great family hotel
Great family hotel, had a great time. Special mention for the aesthetics of the hotel, facade and common spaces. Immense and comfortable pool. Spaces for first class children. Something to keep in mind, is that alcoholic beverages in both lobby and restaurants are quite limited. Not of great quality and variety. But going with the family was not a problem tank we were not intending to drink etc. hotel very targeted to the family although it lacks training base especially night shows (post dinner) unlike hotels competition, this does not give much importance to these activities, as if to gastronomy and the attention of the staff that is first. Special mention to chef Eduardo and waiter Ricardo who always attended us from 10

Amazing vacation twice in 2 months.
We are a couple in our late 60’s . Have been to the IB Tucan at least 20 times since it opened in the late 90’s. We can only say that this resort only gets better with age!!!!The staff is amazing, especially Daniel the manager!!! Always helpful and listens to many of the rude tourists who don’t respect the resort staff… just outright rude and combative if any issue. One even got upset because it was raining out, what could they do for them? Really???? Just spoiled and entitled!! Rooms are older but cleaning staff amazing! Buffet good, sometimes better than the specialty restaurants. The beach and pools are fantastic…and the jungle walks are amazing. If you have problems with this resort, maybe you are the issue. We went in January and February… nothing but an amazing 1 week vacation each time. Gold Star plus!!!!!!

Amazing trip, beautiful resort!
My husband and I had a wonderful time at the Tucan!!! The resort is absolutely beautiful! There’s lush vegetation and jungle throughout the resort, with lovely paths and lots of wildlife to see! The pool is huge, the adult pool bar is gorgeous, and the beach is stunning! The food was delicious!!! We only did a couple of the restaurants, because we loved the options at the buffet so much! Carlos and Airy at the buffet were amazing, and Abi at the service desk was wonderful, friendly, and so helpful!!! We also liked the proximity to attractions and things to do. My only complaint is the entertainment - I thought the entertainment team was great and very engaging, plus I liked how much the kids were included, but there just wasn’t much going on compared to other resorts. It’s not a huge resort, which my husband and I are fine with, and we don’t expect huge productions. I do think, though, more live music would make a big difference. There was a young guy playing in the lobby bar one night and that was hugely popular and fun - it would be nice to see more of that!
