    A Relaxing Vacation

We would give this resort 4.5/5. Some things were great but there were a few misses. First of all, the Playa Mita is over an hour from the Puerto Vallarta airport. If you take the airline transfer (as we did) it took over two hours to get there because of other travelers being dropped off along the way. It is in a more isolated location. No walking into town from here. The hotel does offer a shuttle service to towns for a fee. Here are our impressions. Room Our room was away from the construction (we had written them and specifically asked that our room be on the quiet side). We were on the fourth floor and had a view of the centre garden and wee bit of the ocean. The room was spacious and the bed was huge and comfortable! Pillows were too puffy for our liking . The bathroom had a narrow tub and shower which wasn't ideal but workable. We really liked their water stations to fill up our two water jugs for the day. The resort grounds. Very immaculate and clean. Some short walking trails around the resort. Public areas and buffet restaurants were always being cleaned throughout the day. The resort is built on higher ground than the beach so some beachfront rooms are at ground level and below the pool, restaurants and bars. The Beach You can access the beach by walking down a lot of stairs or a paved road. We didn't realize that there was an elevator until a friend mentioned it a day later (the big structure painted orange). Needless to say, that's what we used when we went for our walks. The beach was as we expected. Hard sand to walk on barefoot with lots of pebbles piles here and there and crashing waves. The Pacific was very cold and there was a red flag almost every day. There were two lifeguards on duty watching folks in the water. We enjoyed our walks in the morning but if we went for a very long one it felt like we were walking on concrete instead of sand by the time we got back. Running shoes would have been better than sandals or bare feet. Pool A very large pool with tons of activities throughout the day plus a smaller pool below it and also sport activity one. There was never a problem finding a lounger but that might be because the hotel wasn't at capacity in the latter part of January. The main pool was cool the first few days but then warmed up nicely. There is a shallow end at the main pool for kiddies plus a cute water park by the Star Camp. Buffets The main buffet (El Nopal) was open for breakfast and dinner. Breakfast had the same offerings every day but there was a lot of variety...smoked and cured salmon plus tuna tataki (lovely!), eggs, bacon and sausages, waffles and pancakes, Mexican breakfast nachos, cheese and cold cuts, pastries, juices and lots of fruit, Dinners were sometimes great and other times not as yummy. There was a themed night every day such as International. Italian, Asian (not great), Spanish, Gala Evening (lobster, shrimp langostinos which was fantastic). Lunch was at La Bahia the buffet building close to the pool. Again a huge assortment of foods and some themed dishes daily (Mexican, Asian etc). Always pizza and fries for those folks who wanted to be reminded of home! We preferred the duck, the spare ribs, the shrimp and more! Restaurants NO reservations required except for the Japanese Teppanyaki one. In the evening the lunch buffet, La Bahia, became the Steakhouse restaurant. It was our favourite and we went there twice. The ribeye steak was delicious despite the fact that it came with the fatty end. Next was the Pacific Express Bistro featuring French cuisine. It was good except for the breaded escargots (yuck!). You need to have those escargots served with garlic butter and not breaded and fried. The Mexican was so-so.. The short rib and nacho dish was more nachos with a small portion of meat. TheJapanese was our least favourite. 18 people around the grill, one chef working both grills and the result was overdone/slightly burned food. Only the rice and shrimp were good. The fish had an odd taste and we didn't eat it. Bars Hand down the best bar is the rooftop Sunset bar which overlooks the ocean and yes, gives you a sunset view. Depending on the time of day you can see blow holes from humpback whales that are migrating north and if lucky sometime the splashes and the flip of the tail. Drinks were good as were the mocktails. The main lobby bar (Adelita) had entertainment some nights (singing and karaoke). Very good service there. Entertainment There was a Huichol corn ceremony one night near the pool, a Mariachi band another night in the central garden area and a Circus act (complete with fire dances) at the Sunset bar our final night. We enjoyed them all. Overall we did enjoy our stay at the Playa Mita despite the travel time to get there and some inconsistencies in the food department. The weather was cool at first (it was January after all) but then warmed up beautifully with sunshine and warm breezes and without any humidity.

    Did not meet our expectations

My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Play Mita for six nights for my birthday. I chose this resort after visiting the Iberostar property in Lagos, Portugal which was wonderful. I have stayed at many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico, the Caribbean, Thailand, and Portugal so I had reasonable expectations. This resort did not meet them. The resort property is absolutely stunning. There are many places to relax privately and publicly; there is no shortage of chairs, tables, couches, sunbeds etc. throughout the property. There are three themed restaurants, a snack bar/bakery, a pizza place in the sports bar, and two buffets. We tried all of these except the Japanese restaurant. The Mexican restaurant and the steak house were absolutely horrible. The food was cold and the appetizers on the menu were replaced with a lukewarm buffet. They actually served what tasted like Kraft macaroni and cheese at the steakhouse. We left both restaurants after taking a couple bites of the food. The food in the buffet was highly inconsistent; some days it was delicious and other days we went to bed hungry due to the poor food quality. On the last two days at the resort, we ate sandwiches for every meal from the snack bar/bakery. There are at least four bars. The drinks were good quality but a little sweet for our taste. The room was as expected. It had everything you would need, and we had no issues with it. Other than the food, we were most disappointed by the excessive offerings of “the presentation”. It was offered four times in our six nights. It felt like an ambush and was a nuisance during our vacation. Overall, I would not return to this property and do not recommend it. It is really disheartening to visit an all-inclusive resort and leave pounds lighter.

    We love this resort

We love this resort, great value, our room was garden view and we loved it, clean, comfortable, king size bed, lots of storage space, great bathroom. The food at the buffet breakfast and evening was very good and plentiful and varied with different specialty every night, Italian, Spanish, gala with lobster. We really enjoyed the French and Steakhouse restaurants as well, delicious food, wine and great service( try the steak tartare made at the table). The large infinity pool is as welcoming day or late evening with a shallow end for little ones. Lots of free activities all day, zumba, early yoga, dance lessons, swim fit, archery, rifle shooting, pétanque...the star camp for little ones was great for our grandchildren when we visited back last July, our granddaughter still talk about being a chef... We love the beach, clean, easy walk about 40 mn one way as far you can go ...we walked one hour every day. Lifeguards were very attentive as the rip tide was strong, listen to lifeguards and be safe. Most of all, you never have to get up early and save a chair, plenty to be found. We loved the evening sunset bar on the roof top having a drink and looking out for whales. We found all the staff to be very attentive and friendly but most of all a BIG thank you to Daniela and Rafael who kept asking us how was our stay. We will go back ...

I remember that the first time I visited this hotel was the week it was inaugurated, I don't see much change in the property, but I also don't see that the hotel is bad as many say, the hotel is very nice, its beach area is very nice, The food is very good, the drinks too, the entertainment is very good both day and night, the rooms are very comfortable, of course it depends on the area you have paid for but any of them are very nice, the staff service is very Well, if you are looking to get married on the beach, this hotel has very nice areas perfect for the occasion but it is important to mention that it is a high cost hotel

Kind staff but no service. Terrible food.

Very beautiful and the staff were very friendly. Star Camp for the kids was amazing and the workers there are so kind and good with the kids. Rooms were very clean. It's a very beautiful resort. Service is terrible though. There was only one worker for the entire pool area. Lots of fruit flies in the coffee shop all over the food which made it look very unappetizing. The service at the steak restaurant was the worst service I've ever experienced in my life. Food is terrible. Nothing that I would expect at a 5 star resort. Would not recommend.
