Average Resort, not 5-Star Adults Only

Pretty average resort. It’s clean and nice but could definitely use updating. The fact that it’s very spread out means no one area is over crowded, which is nice. Not really an adults only resort though as the restaurants, and most amenities are shared with the Ziva which is on the same property. Was annoyed to have paid more for Zilara when it’s the same resort as Ziva with no separation. Food was not great, and fairly limited. Almost no fresh fruit or vegetables. Restaurant booking is pretty annoying and fills up fast. Beach is man-made which was a bit disappointing, as it’s small and not natural feeling. Lastly, the staff were very hit or miss. Some very friendly but more often than not they acted like they were annoyed you were there.

Great Stay, no issues at all!

Very nice resort! Room was spacious and clean. Both pool bars were fairly quiet and had friendly bartenders who were attentive. Only went to the buffet twice (once each for breakfast and dinner) and it was standard fare and nothing special. The a la cart restaurants were very good 4 course meals. We had a group of 12 and made reservations for the entire week when we arrived. The service was top notch everywhere we ate and appreciated being tipped. The buildings could use a little maintenance on the outside but overall the grounds were beautiful and clean. Pro tip - bring water shoes if you plan on going in the Caribbean, the bottom is very rocky! I have seen a lot of negative reviews but for the price I was very satisfied with everything about the resort.

Don’t listen to all the negative reviews

After reading all the negative reviews I was very skeptical after booking this resort. But to my surprise it was a wonderful fun filled experience. I was with a party of 12. We made our dinner reservations right when we arrived with no problem and they were very accommodating with our large group. We stayed on the Zilara side in an Oceanfront luxury suite. The room was large and had everything we needed. Yes the beach is rocky but gorgeous Yes the pools are colder in the winter but tolerable The staff is wonderful. Everyone we came in contact with was so friendly and professional The food was great. I will say the buffet was just average. But there are so many other options and if you can’t find something you like. Then you are the problem People love to complain and nitpick every detail of the resort. I was fearful but I was pleasantly surprised on how nice this resort was. This was our third trip to Jamaica. We have traveled to Mexico and Punta Cana and yes I’ve been to more luxurious resorts and I’ve also been to less. We had a great trip. Would I return? The answer is yes

Not what it used to be.

This was our 6th visit to the Hyatt Zilara. In the past, we there would have been some experience that would surpass our previous stay. The one constant over the years is that the Hyatt staff are hard working folks. This time our room was at the back end of building 1, near the Fitness Spa. On the 5th floor, our view was mostly the ac units of the adjacent building and the open yard. We felt isolated from the overall resort vibe that we experienced in the past. We certainly appreciated the complimentary bottle of red wine sent to our room upon our arrival. However, we were underwhelmed by the location. The check in process was seamless at the Airport. We enjoyed our rum punch! We took private transportation with Nexus to the resort. The service was on point. As per usual, the NYE party was awesome and the fireworks were amazing. We enjoyed the entertainment and the atmosphere. Upon arrival, we were advised to book reservations via the app or in person. Booking can only be done in person at 12pm. The app was off line for a few days which had us a little frustrated to find limited availability by the time we were able to book something. We also were informed that showing up at a restaurant without a reservation would result in a $5 per person fee. We tested this claim, by showing up at Petit Pariz without a reservation. They were able to seat us after a 30 minute wait and no additional cost was applied. The food was delicious at Choicez, Petit Pariz, and Urban Heat. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. They made our eating experience enjoyable. The Jerk hut and West End served up delicious jerk chicken. The best spots for ordering beverages were at Potionz, Union Jack and Stirz. We found pool bars tended to get creative with their renditions of Margaritas or other popular beverages especially by the end of the day. On two occasions we were approached by Playa staff trying to encourage us to join the Playa Club level. The desks were strategically situated in the pathway of unsuspecting vacationers. We had a difficult time getting away from their tactics and attempts to get our attention. This was an unwelcome intrusion. Our room was a standard category. It was clean, the water was hot and with good pressure. The AC worked perfectly well. The room was stocked daily with the basics. The overall decor throughout the resort is ready for an update. The style is dated, looking tired and worn. Another observation, the staff was moved around the resort. In the past, we would seek out certain staff as we enjoyed their hospitality and attentiveness. This time, we would have different staff on the beach or restaurants. It was hard to build a rapport with the staff this time. Will we come back, maybe it is time to try another Jamaican resort.

    Avoid if you can

Except for two positive experiences—one with the front desk manager who did her best to resolve the issue when we weren't given the room we had booked and paid for, and another with the lady chef—everything else, including the staff's attitude, was the rudest we've ever encountered at the property. Surprisingly, we had far better interactions with the locals and others outside the resort.
