    Great Hotel with Friendly staff

Hotel is in a great location in Negril which is close to places such as Ricks Cafe, Margaritiville and Woodstock. When we stayed at Christmas the hotel had only just reopened after a large scale renovation. Certain aspects of the rooms me and the family stayed in had some issues, such as no fridge, no optics, missing ceiling tiles, lights not working to name a few. When we reported these they were fixed quickly. Some walk ways in hotel blocks seemed a little scruffy with paint splats on walls and floors, it looked like it was a bit of rush to re-open on time. Entertainment staff were very good and very hardworking throughout the day ensuring activities were fun and getting holiday makers to join in. Bar staff were amazing and earned their tips. This is an amazing hotel and was our second time there and we would come back.

We just got back from an amazing vacation at this resort!!!

For context we are a family of 5 (kids 14, 18, and 27). My husband and I have stayed multiple times down the way at Couples Negril but opted for this resort to be able to bring the fam. I looked back on some older pictures of this resort since we visited just after the new renovations and I would say it is definitely a fantastic upgrade :). The resort is beautiful. Considering how large it is and it's high capacity I was pleasantly surprised that it did not feel OVER crowded (in my opinion). We stayed in two standard connecting rooms which was perfect for our family - I really like this concept over a "family" room since our kids are a little older but I also think the family rooms are such a neat way get some additional space. The beach is great. You cannot beat the Bloody Bay in general, so beautiful with calm clear water. The area near this resort does have some sea grass but if you are interested in the sea life at all, this will not bother you. You can snorkel right off the beach and see so many fun fish. There is LESS sea grass the further towards the inner part of the bay you go. There are plenty of palm tree that provide all day shade for those that prefer less exposure to the sun but want to be on the beach. We did NOT spend much time at the pools but they seemed popular with lots of chairs and umbrellas. You can walk the entire length of the Bay and see the other resorts within it. There are lots of places to pick up some fun items to take home and of course, you can stop to get fresh lobster along the way. Restaurants and bars. I was very happy with the food choices and selections here. One of our children is a vegetarian and she was able to find a variety of food for each meal. It seems like there's a popular time to eat for all meals so plan accordingly. I would say the earlier the better - which may be ideal for those with smaller kids anyway. Expect the bars to get busy at certain times too (again plan accordingly and be patient), they won't run out of yummy drinks :). You also will have a selection of alcohol and beer in your room bar and they provide LOTS of water (a few big water bottles and smaller ones as well). Entertainment and activities. The nightly entertainment was so fun. They had lots of different shows and ways to get involved as guests!! This IS WHAT IT IS - and what you make of it. We laughed so much with our kids and had fun dancing, and watching karaoke. Their staff works so hard to make sure you are included and enjoy the shows, parties, etc. They have a lot of daily activities and they are very engaging to get guest to join in. Our kids played volleyball everyday and they play music for a few hours on the beach while they have horse shoes, corn hole, darts, games, etc. You can use the paddle boards, kayaks, and pedal boats. They also have snorkeling gear available for a $25 (cash) deposit that you get back when you return the gear. Excursions. So many too chose from and so many vendors/companies that will take you. I would suggest researching what you might be interested in before you go. If you don't book prior to your vacation, there will be plenty of opportunities while you're there. We personally had no interest in doing much. We booked a catamaran through the resorts vendor that took us snorkeling, to Margaritaville, and then watched the sunset on the ride back to the resort. There will be many local vendors with similar packages (and others) all along the beach. They typically offer their tours a little cheaper than through the resort. Leading to Vendors...there are vendors on the beach. They will ask if you want to look at items they have or are interested in services they provide. If you are NOT interested, just chat with them for a bit and tell them no thanks. Feel free to also negotiate prices for goods and services with them!! They are so friendly and fun, enjoy the conversation and smiles. Odds and ends. Transportation to the resort. I highly recommend private transportation from the airport to the resort (and back). The shuttle is free, but it accommodates a lot of people and can take a while to be ready to depart to the resort AND it makes other stops along the way. If you are just "going with the flow" this may not be a problem for you and you might want to just enjoy the scenery. However, if you have had a long travel day or have kids - private is probably the better option. Club Mobay is a great luxury add on that can expedite you through the airport/customs/baggage/etc. However, I do believe that the private transportation is more important. Have a realistic expectation of a vacation here. This resort is large and caters to families, singles, large groups, weddings, honeymooners, etc. Everyone is seeking a different experience and the resort and it's staff do the best they can to accommodate it all. There is no room services or beach servers (but I never felt this was needed). If you want a smaller, more intimate experience or more specific service - look elsewhere. Enjoy the amazing weather, water, and company!!

    Pros and Cons

Celebrated my 50th birthday at the Riu with 23 friends and family members. Overall it was a great stay. First the Pros.Rooms were nice and spacious. Housekeeping did a nice job. We were in building 2. Nice and quiet and good proximity to beach and quiet pool. The resort in whole was pretty easy to navigate and get around. Beach is good for shell hunting. Plenty of seats on the beach. Food was decent. It’s your typical resort food. Plenty of options. Nice to have the 24 hour sports bar for late night snacks and early morning coffee and pastries. Best place to get coffee! Entertainment is pretty good. There’s always something going on. If you are bored it’s because you want to be. Use the riu app or the kiosk in the lobby to stay informed of daily activities. Do not miss the Riu party on Thursday! Now for the cons. Charging 13 year olds as adults is a bit unfair. Not that I want to have 13 year olds hanging out at the adult pools but if they aren’t allowed to be at the adult pool And not old enough to drink alcohol they shouldn’t be charged as an adult. Another big disappointment was not having room service! I wish they would serve it at least until restaurants closed. My daughters boyfriend wasn’t feeling well one evening and she didn’t want to leave him. I tried taking her a plate from the buffet since there is no room service so she could at least eat and a server at the buffet wouldn’t allow it. I was told she would have to call the nurse to get food up to her room. Yet I noticed in the next few days people taking plates to the beach. Service at the buffets was hit or miss. Many times after being sat we never had anyone come around to take a drink order or get us coffee. And yes, we were tipping. Only specialty restaurant we ate in was the asian restaurant. It was just an asian themed buffet. Tried several times to make reservations at the steak house and was never able to get in. Yet every time we walked by it there were plenty of empty tables. As I stated before, there are plenty of activities. Problem being they didn’t always start on time. I think the app was not always correct either. We would show up to an activity expecting one thing and it would be something else. Also, the water sports were not available very early. It would be nice to get a paddle board or kayak early when the water is calm and it’s not too hot yet. When some from our party tried they were told to come back because they weren’t ready. I believe it was almost 10:00 am. Mosquitoes are horrible! Be sure to bring mosquito spray and maybe some calamine lotion. The gift shop prices are astronomical for necessities. There is no atm at this resort. Bring plenty of cash. You will need water shoes at this beach. Lots of shellls, rocks, sea grass and muck in the water. Nothing was too upsetting to ruin anyones vacation. Please just take this as constructive criticism. One thing I really appreciate about this resort is that there aren’t different package options. Everyone is on the same level and have access to everything equally. I’ve been to resorts that have upgraded packages and segregate according to the package you have. Nothing ruins a vacation more than constantly being told you aren’t allowed here nor there because you didn’t upgrade. Overall it was a great vacation! It would’nt take much to make this resort the best in the bay!

It was an awesome experience overall, from we entered the property. The food was good, the room was spacious and clean.

The staff was quite professional and efficient. We had a great time and even extended our stay. We're looking forward to another trip and we hope the service will be just as good or better 😀 as we intend to stay for much longer next time around
