Love this place but it’s lost its Jamaican vibe since changing to Catalonia

We love this hotel and have visited twice in the last year but feel it has lost its Jamaican authenticity since changing to Catalonia. There are a small number of staff that are clearly unhappy in their work and will only serve you if you are willing to tip constantly. The entertainment was poor, singers every night singing the same type of songs, no variety in entertainment such as dancers etc we have seen in previous years. This lifts in our block we’re out of order for the full holiday, the pool table was out of order the whole holiday and the jacuzzi was out of order for 2 days with very murky looking water in it. On a positive note, the food was very good, much improved from last year and we loved the jerk hut and the nachos. Lots of choice in the evenings and really tasty food! We really do hope Catalonia can reinvigorate this hotel and the staff and inject the Jamaican vibe back as we have enjoyed our holidays here previously.

First time visit and eager to go back again

Great experience! We went last March. It was holiday inn at the time . Now it’s Catalonia and we are going back to check it out.Hoping it’s as good or better than before. We had great hospitality extended to us from the staff , especially Karen at the seabreeze restaurant.

Far better options out there for the money. Avoid if you are accustomed to nice resorts. This will disappoint.

Stayed here for a day in desperation while family member was in hospital across the street. This place needs a total face lift. There’s far better options out there for the price. Food was mid grade, rooms dated and not very clean. Smelled musty everywhere. Staff was friendly though and very helpful.

    Don’t go here

I Love Jamaica! I will be returning, just not to this resort if it can even be called that. Catalonia left my family and I with so much to be desired. I don’t even know where to start. The rumor is that it was a Holiday Inn and was bought out by Catalonia resort chain. I love Jamaica and its beautiful beaches and their hospitality. I went 12 years before this vacation and I was enamored. The Catalonia is considered a 4 star but at the level they are running, I say it’s a 2 or 3 star. FOOD The main eating area gives off as a cafeteria. Presentation and the vehicles that hold the food were ugly and dated. The food was sub par. The Jamaican dishes were good but the fruit, why are canned peaches being served. After day 2 I was over the food there. The restaurants are hard to book but they are your best option. The Japanese restaurant was my favorite. The drinks with and without alcohol lacked. The coffee was most of the time watered down. When o asked the waitress, she said it depends whose brews the coffee. BEACH AND POOL They have a little piece of island that really gives the “resort” a nice touch but the piece of the beach where the resort is, is very shallow. There is alot of seaweed and so gross to step on that you may just not want to bother. The pool is only 3 and a half feet. Not really fun for a full grown adult. The towels provided are always late and therefore you can’t just go to the beach towel area and pick one up without an excuse. More BEACH CHAIRS. Literally we had to rush in order to go and grab some for us to be able to enjoy a few hours by the beach. CATS The hotel is run down by feral cats and it seems they it’s business as usual. Cats pooping right I where you are “relaxing” no one is monitoring this activity. Cats spraying all along the buildings. Meowing in heat in the middle of the night. WIFI Depends where you are, it will work. We had to go in our hotel room bathroom to use it. After some call to the front desk they helped us by providing us our own little network. ROOMS Old looking and not well kept. Our room had a tv that didn’t work. The shower head was rusty and the tub floor was stained. Toilet paper holder was hanging off the wall. Headboard was full of dust. The Sheets are paper thin and pillows flat as a pancake. No comforters and when we asked for extras sheets and pillows we were told they didn’t have more. CUSTOMER SERVICE The bell boys were very nice but the ladies at the front desk were not very helpful. They gave us the keys and we didn’t get any information about where things were located. No warm welcome at all!!!! There is so much more that I can say but it’s just too much. In short if you are use to attentive service and a pristine resort, DON’T book here. They need staff training program. A huge room upgrade and design. Get rid of the stray cats. I counted about 14 of them!!!
