Too Busy
This was one of many stays at this Hampton Inn. At 11:00 pm the first night we had to change rooms due to continued loud noise from rooms. The Front Desk clerk was delightful, but the rooms did not answer their phones and the clerk was unable to leave the Desk as she was the only employee. It seemed there was constant barking and whining from dogs left in rooms. Not once did we receive the usual friendly "hello" from the day time front desk when we returned from our walks. On the other hand the dinning area was kept clean despite the crowd of folks. I understand it was Thanksgiving weekend and lots of families were visiting. When we return to Portland this Spring we will be checking out other accommodations.

Embarrassment to the Hampton Inn name - Avoid at all costs!
The Hampton Inn Downtown Portland is an absolute disgrace to the Hampton Inn brand. This place is a masterclass in how not to run a hotel. The valet service were extremely rude and left no confidence in the safety of my vehicle as I watched them floor cars around the lot for literally no reason. But the front desk staff took the cake for sheer incompetence and rudeness. Power hungry, Ken, at the front desk was so afraid at the very idea of valet being questioned he threatened to have us removed. This hotel doesn’t just fail to meet Hampton Inn standards – it outright demolishes them. If you value good service or even basic decency, do yourself a favor and stay anywhere else.

Not like a Hampton Inn
This place gets a 3 because of the friendly, helpful staff. It's a great location with lots to do nearby, but it's not up to Hampton Inn standards. I've stayed at a lot of Hampton Inns across the , they usually have super comfortable beds. This one was so so. The room decor was nice. Breakfast is 6 to 10. I was there before 8 and they ran out of one of the main breakfast items and was told there would not be more. Bagels, but no cream cheese. Waffles are usually good, but there were only flavored options that were rubbery.

High Priced-Average Hotel
Over the years, we have stayed at the Hampton Inn chain in many places in the US and Canada. It was our go-to chain knowing we would have a clean room, good amenities and comfortable beds at a reasonable price. It’s been about 4 years since we traveled. The quality of the Hampton Inn has declined while the prices are higher. We were given complimentary 2 bottles of water. The room needed a good carpet wash. It smelled musty. The chair was broken; my brother almost fell over backwards onto the floor. The staff brought us a new chair right away. The beds were OK. The thermostat had a setting for fan on, but it did not work. The staff just set the temperature to 68 degrees. So, we returned the setting to 73 and lived with the fan only working when the cooling was on. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel. The hotel is in a good location for visiting Old Port Portland. A lot of the main attractions, restaurants and shops are within easy walking distance. You pay for the proximity, not the quality of the room. This hotel was one of the most expensive we stayed in - $450 per night.

Nice location for downtown
This hotel has a nice location close to downtown restaurants. The room was nice and comfortable with a view of the water. It was a little drizzly but not enough to keep us in. Being a desert dweller rain is sort of nice. We dined on the obligatory lobster dinner at the waterfront and strolled back to hotel. Would definitely stay again if ever we find ourselves back in NE.
