Stay Away - Yes I was there for the shooting!

Back in early June, our family booked a vacation at Christmas to Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres. We had heard it was a nice resort with a great kids’ club that took children 2+. We had booked 3 rooms in total and asked to be located close to one another. One week ahead of our arrival I sent an email to the resort to try to confirm that our rooms would be close together but did not get a response. (This should have been my first clue to the lack of service at this resort.). My son, daughter-in-law and their 2 girls (2 & 4) arrived Christmas Eve around 7:30 pm, checked in and got room service and crashed. The girls did not get any pillows or blankets, but they fell asleep so quickly that they figured they would deal with that in the am. My husband, son and I arrive at 9:10 pm. Upon check-in I asked about proximity of rooms, and they said they could not locate us close by one another. The check in clerk also mumbled under her breath about beds. We got our keys and asked where the buffet was as we were starving. We were then told that being Christmas Eve we needed reservations for dinner at the buffet, and that we would need to go to one of the specialty restaurants. I was tired, hungry and wanted to choose what I ate so I told them that I was going to the buffet. They tried to stop us, however I just walked over and had no problem getting a table. There were lots of empty seats. (This too should have been a clue to what was to come.) After eating, we were taken to our room on a golf cart (huge resort so this is the means to get around). We walked into a room with 2 double beds……a far cry from the ocean view king suite we booked. Our driver called the front desk when we complained and was told they didn’t have any king rooms available. I then went directly to the front desk and of course they got us a room. We went back to the first room to pick up our luggage and in all the confusion my husband dropped his cell phone. Once we settled into the room and realized his phone was missing and we called the front desk. Of course, they did not get back to us so I went to the front desk once again! This time we had a nice clerk who found the phone and after hearing about our experience told us to come back the next day after 4 pm and we could move to the building my son was in but would not have an ocean view. Well, there aren’t any ocean view rooms because the resort is so far from the beach you would never know that this is a beach vacation. In this now 2nd room, we had a cold shower, NO HOT WATER after 20 minutes of running the shower!. At 4pm I went to inquire about a new room but the new staff said the clerk the previous night was mistaken, there was nothing available in my son’s building but they would fix the hot water! (FYI, stories change by the minute!). Day 2 cold shower again. I had enough and went to the front desk. I ended up pushing my way to see a real manager and we ended up speaking to Sara Castellanos, Rooms Division Associate Manager. She was very pleasant and helpful. She moved our room (3rd change) to my son’s building, she also made certain my grandchildren got pillows & blankets (asked for for 2 days). She also advised that if we wanted to go to any of the restaurants and they were fully booked that we should just look to see if there were empty tables and request that we take one. She said people book ahead and don’t show so there is always room! FYI we did this twice and got major push back from the staff until we said we would call Sara at which point we were seated. In fact, the night we went to the Steak House (see picture) our whole section was empty. We had arrived 15 minutes late and were told that we forfeited our reservation (they give 10 minutes grace). I told the front of house that she could jump in the ocean, and we promptly got seated! We also had major issues with getting towels. We called for towels 3 times before 9pm one night and they showed up at 11:45pm and woke us up. They try to say that they limit towels for environmental reasons, but we hear from many of the staff that they just didn’t have enough towels. Each time we tried to get service both calling and by the Whatsapp chat that Sarah hooked us up with I would not get a response for more than 3 hours! On our second last day, our wrist band fobs stopped working. The concierge in our building said they do that to everyone, so you go to reception to settle your tab. At reception they said that was not true. Crazy enough we had nothing charged to our rooms! Last but not least, yes, we were there when the SHOOTING ON THE BEACH occurred! Luckily, we were at the pool. We watched as helicopters circle the resort for over an hour. The staff kept quiet about the incident. There were NO PRECAUTIONS taken by the hotel to ensure guest safety. Reading about the incident online after the fact left me thankful that no guests were hurt! My advice, stay away from anything owned by Palladium because their actions show that they have no regard for the care and safety of their guest! I expect more from a resort that charges the rates we paid. Christmas week is when a resort needs to have their A game on and they obviously didn't! I understand that the beaches in Mexico are not resort property but they should have guards on the beach...this is done in many places where safety is a concern. Nothing could ever get me to return to a resort owned by this company because they have proven that the attitude of disregard comes from the top!

Wonderful customer service on the beach

Israel was responsive, kind, knowledgeable — what more could you want?! We had a great time! He served an excellent variety of drinks and made sure our umbrella was positioned securely. He was patient as I stumbled my way thru simple Spanish phrases and helped with my pronunciation, gently and in a positive way.

Not Worth the Hype - Service and Food Disappoint

I recently stayed at this all-inclusive resort and, while the property itself is beautiful with a nice room, pool, and beach, the overall experience was underwhelming. First and foremost, the food quality was incredibly disappointing. The meals were bland, poorly prepared, and not at all what I’d expect from an all-inclusive resort. Plus, there’s an additional service charge for breakfast room service, which felt like an unnecessary cost for subpar food. Another huge issue is the reservation system. Most of the resort’s restaurants require reservations, but getting one is a hassle. They stop taking reservations at 4 PM, which means if you don’t book in advance, you’re out of luck. The staff’s limited English made the reservation process even more frustrating. And when you finally do get a reservation, expect incredibly slow service – the wait for food was agonizing. Additionally, the resort’s transportation system is a mess. Golf carts, which are supposed to shuttle guests around the property, are not easily available. You’ll find yourself walking long distances most of the time, which isn’t ideal for a property like this. All in all, while the physical aspects of the resort (room, pool, and beach) were decent, the food quality, service, and transportation issues made this stay far less enjoyable than I had hoped. I won’t be returning and would not recommend this resort to anyone.
