Hotel is CLOSED
I booked the Clarion Point 6 months ago and just found out yesterday Dec 1 2024 the hotel has been closed since July 2024. I booked it thru Choice Privileges (which I will never use again). No calls or emails or text message to let me know the hotel closed down. But the good news is I DO NOT get my money back. Spend over an hour on the phone with Choice Privileges, at first, they confirmed my reservation and said the hotel is still open,,, They wanted proof from me that the hotel is actually closed. I informed them to check their own website and see the hotel is no longer on the list of hotels they take reservations for. I asked them to call the hotel and see if anyone answers. Choice Privileges said I booked a non-refundable rate so no money back. After a long conversation with them, all of a sudden, they had computer problems and would call me back in one hour. I never received a call back from them. I have read several reviews of people just showing up and finding out the hotel has a closed sign on the front door. I am glad i found out and did drive the 7 hours. our cruise leaves in less than 30 days. Luckly I was able to get a room at the Tru by Hilton the staff was very friendly and helpful with my issue, they knew the Clarion was closed. I turned the issue over to my bank to try and get my money back. We will see what happens.

Clarion Pointe Galveston Seawall
We've been going to Galveston since the 70's, camped a lot and also stayed in hotels. I booked the Clarion Pointe last August because my grandson was getting married in Galveston, on the beach. I did read some reviews that put me off a little, but there's usually a mix of reviews when you book a hotel. Since this had good and bad, I booked a room and was pleasantly surprised. I booked a double queen bed room. The room was clean and well kept. Beds were very comfy, pillows soft. Towels were soft. We were on the third floor and it was very quiet. We had a very nice view of Murdochs and The Pleasure Pier from our windows. Breakfast was the usual breakfast fare, plus a little more. Check in was easy, as was check out. The employees there were extremely pleasant and helpful. This hotel is right on the Seawall, parking is easy and the hotel is pretty quiet in the evenings. I would stay here again without hesitation. Prices were good and booking was easy.

Reviews put us of for more than 1 reason
We booked this hotel on Booking.com and the reviews were okay. Then we looked on Tripadvisor and Google and nearly all of the reviews were absolutely terrible to the point that we had decided we will lose our £200 plus payment and go somewhere else. However, the Hotel 4 days before we Were due to stay the hotel cancelled our hotel for no reason whatsoever and no explanation was given. This suited us as our booking was a non-refundable but because they’re cancelled, we got our money back. I think we dodged a bullet stop in here. this could’ve been a complete disaster for our holiday plans so for that reason alone I have given it one star.

Air conditioner
Our air conditioner leaked all over the floor, the carpet was soaking wet and the walls were swelling & we had to change rooms ..they new thier was s problem but put us in the room anyways until I complained , I recommended this place to my other families because I’ve stayed here before and never had one problem . They could not keep up with the demand of the food at the continental breakfast, I felt really sorry for the employees, it’s not thier fault , just seemed like poor management, I’m Not the one to fuss but I felt like this place has gone down since my last stay, but I will say thier was no bugs, the room was clean, the AC was cold and the bed was super comfty as well as the pillows. I think it’s not right that they charge you $15 a nightly fee to park when you are staying thier… like get the license plate number when you check snd make guest hang a tag in your car … me and my family will not be back and I hate this because it’s so convenient to everything …The floors need to be replaced on elevators as well before someone trips & falls ..
