Jan 09, 2025Just go, incredibly relaxing, fantastic staff and such good food!
We went for our 25th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. We arrived and had a banner on our door saying "It's our anniversary". On the day of our anniversary, we had a sweet display of two swans made out of towels and rose petals on our bed. We were also sent a bottle of sparkling wine to our room. The pools are beautiful and clean, the beds are lovely, turn down service each evening and daily clean. The food! A ton of variety and everything was fresh and delicious. Honestly, the food was fantastic!!! Everyone we interacted with was wonderful, three people in particular deserve being called out: Virgilio made great drinks for us by the pool each day, was very friendly, and helped us with our Spanish. On our anniversary Virgilio carved out a pineapple in the shape of a face to make us a special drink. Miguel served us a couple of times at the Lobster House. He's very friendly, served with professionalism, and it was great talking with him and learning Spanish words from him too. If we were nearby for lunch, we would stop by to say hello and chat. Enrique served us breakfast at The Kitchen Table most mornings. He is very friendly, polite, professional, and very attentive to the needs of his customers. He made us cappuccinos with delicate artwork on top, and very very hot, which is just how I like it. :-) Thank you for an incredible anniversary week!

The Resort Never Disappoints
This was our 2nd trip to the resort and we are still amazed by the services provided. On this trip we upgraded to the Club and it was well worth the additional cost. The staff makes you feel that you are valued and will do whatever is possible to make it an excellent experience. The entertainment was also diverse and amazing; the Freddy Mercury and Michael Jackson covers are outstanding. I would like to recognize some of the staff that makes everything happen: Jullybed the concierge at the club beach she is always happy and perpetual motion. She even cleaned our sunglasses. Alberto and Fabiola our servers on the beach were prompt and made great drink suggestions. Cesr at the Martinii Bar is the best at what he does Maritza at Magna provided us with incredible service Although not part of the hotel, we took a day trip by catamaran to Isla Mujeres and Catica and Captain Maya made the bad weather pleasurable. I highly recommend Excellence Play Mujeres.

Amazing Food, Friendly Staff, and Great Activities!
We had an incredible stay at Excellence Playa Mujeres! The food was absolutely fantastic – every meal was delicious with great variety across the many restaurants, our favourites were the Breakfast Omelett made by Maritza and the pizza at the pool/beach made by Enrique. In general, the staff were so warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home, especially Maria, Luis and Karla at the Kitchen Table (thanks again for the super sweet good-bye dessert :)). We also loved the variety of activities available, especially playing Tennis with Alfredo and beach-volleyball with Vincenzo. Highly recommend this place for a perfect getaway and we definitely will come back!

For those debating between Beloved and Excellence Playa Mujeres (EPM), I’d recommend Beloved. We returned to Excellence for the second time, this time to EPM, after a great experience at Beloved, but unfortunately, EPM didn’t meet our expectations. EPM is a larger resort with higher demand, which seemed to lead to understaffing and a less personalized experience. On our first day, I ordered something specific, and the server didn’t confirm the details with me. When my wife asked if he had taken my order, his response was, “If I didn’t say anything, it’s because it was a yes.” This lack of communication and dismissive attitude set the tone for the trip. Later, at the club, a bartender mentioned we’d get the Coco a day before departure, but when the concierge confirmed it, he added that it was only if we were club members. He didn’t make eye contact, seemed frustrated, and quickly walked away without offering any further assistance. While we enjoyed the Club level benefits, like premium drinks and access to a quieter area, Beloved already includes premium drinks and provides a more intimate and attentive atmosphere. The highlights of our stay at EPM were the spa, nighttime activities, and a day pass to Beloved, which made us realize how much we preferred the service and vibe there. If you're looking for a more relaxed and personalized experience, I would recommend Beloved. I might not be returning to EPM, but the upper-level staff did make our stay more enjoyable.

The place is beautiful and the service is good when we got it. The weather was terrible half the time, the hotel couldn’t help that but every pool was cold except the main pool which was lukewarm. Every hot tub ranged from not as hot as you want it to be to I wish the pool were this temperature. We had a terrace pool which was also not heated so we couldn’t use it the entire trip. We also didn’t get much sun even on the nicer days. It’s my fault for booking in December. I did not mind the cooler weather or the rain - I just really wish the pools were warmer. I had to ask three times for ice one day so I just stopped asking for stuff except when our roof leaked from the rain. The maintenance folks were quick. I don’t know what I was expecting. I spent a lot of money on this trip and I saw people around us being treated with extra care and nobody was treating us that way. Maybe the other folks tipped more? I was miserable and need a vacation so maybe my face looked unfriendly. I don’t know. I just left feeling crappy that I spent so much money.
