Wonderful week at Casitas
Our week at Casitas was marvelous. The property was very well maintained, our room was beautiful, and the staff was always friendly and attentive. Our butlers, Fernando and Elizabeth, were an exceptional team! They contacted us every morning and evening to make sure everything was perfect. We really appreciated their attention.

Nice, average resort for the price paid
I would rate our 8 nights at El Dorado Royale Casitas as average. Many things were amazing and some less than par but all in all a very nice get away for a good price. Everyone has their own priorities when choosing a resort. Our are food, beach, location, service/cleanliness and then price. My husband and I were there in 2002 and it was fabulous, including the beach. We knew that the beach was not going to be great so I will not let that bring my rating down. Our group of 4 couples stayed in the Casitas. We loved the pools in each grouping and loved that you could easily see the water from the pool. It would have been nice to be able to eat at the pool however, I can understand why you cannot due to the cats and wildlife around. We had cats fight right outside our room which was on the ground level. The resort is expansive, plenty of options for restaurants and bars with the ability to go to Generations as well. To us the food was really hit or miss. Only a few times did we get our food while it was really hot. Based on other reviews I was really expecting the food to be good however, it was a disappointment for us all. Nothing was anything to rave about at the resort itself but the food we had at the excursion on Maroma beach was amazing. Hot, flavorful, and a lot of variety. The excursion itself was such a beautiful experience and such an added value to the trip. We snorkeled, walked the beach, and were able to walk super far out into the water where we found many, many large starfish! I would look to stay at that location in the future. We couldn't ask for a more cleaner resort. Everywhere we looked you would see at least 3-5 staff members cleaning or attending to the grounds. And all were very kind and service oriented. The price we paid per couple with airfare was around 4,000 so we found that to be more economical than at other high end resorts, such as Atelier which is absolutely top notch. So positives were the price, the included excursion, the cleanliness. The negatives were the food; variety, temperature, flavor. Those combined give it an average rating for me. I likely would not return as I would look to find an area with a better beach and exceptional reviews on food even if means paying more money.

Seemed nice, contacted Salmonella!
The Casita accommodation was fine, the staff worked diligently to respond to any request u had and the weather was perfect! My husband has been very ill since returning home (Peterborough, Ontario) February 2nd. He went to Energency hospital on Monday and Peterborough Health Dept just called, he has salmonella!! We travel a LOT and NEVER have we been so sick, not to mention to have been diagnosed with Salmonella To confirm we were on the property the entire time. BEWARE!

Another great stay at the Casitas
As usual, our stay at the Casitas was fantastic. The grounds were beautiful, service was excellent & food was tasty. Leydi welcomed us like family each morning at Sante Fe for an excellent breakfast to get our day started. Fernando at Casitas pool bar 30 kept our drinks flowing during the day. Our favorite dinner was at the D’Italia Casitas and on this trip, our least favorite was at Fuentes. Lomas provided our private transportation & we thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected limo ride to the airport.

Great Week at EDRC!
Spent a week celebrating our sons 30th birthday, and it was a great experience. From check in to check out the staff were amazing. We are members, but apart from a few things at the end of this review the experience would be the same. We had a casita suite in building 31, a swim out. The room was clean and well appointed. The bed was firm but not to the point my arm fell asleep when on my side. The bedding was soft and in good condition. The bath area is large and there are separate areas for the sinks, toilet, inside shower and also there is an outside shower. Linens were big and thick. The amenities are of good quality. The large closet holds plenty of room for hanging clothes and included an iron and board, along with a safe, bathrobes, slippers and a pair of umbrellas. There is a large jacuzzi style tub area, but we didn’t use it, as we enjoyed the outdoor shower that had crazy water pressure and very hot water. There is a large dresser that also holds the mini fridge which was well stocked with beer and soft drinks. In addition we had some chips and chocolate for snacks. The outdoor patio and pool area is large and contains a nice table that we used for morning coffee service daily. The swim up bar at our pool was great, our bartender Alberto was an excellent mixologist. There were loungers available most days until 11 around the pool and beach. The restaurants were all good, although some menu changes from our last visit were a little disappointing at Kampai. We had excellent meals at D’Italias Caistas, Wine Kitchen, Santa Fe, Rincon and Jade. We also did the Chef Table one night. Sit down breakfast at Santa Fe was our favorite along with Chef Market for buffet style (they have omelets and crepe stations). While most of our week was relaxing, we did a few activities such as Tequila tasting at Rincon, and a mixology course. The few bumps we had were some ants in the bathroom, late dinner reservations, and the seemingly inability to get extra towels without calling every day. From a member perspective, our private transfers were great and timely. The resort credit process was easy to understand a d we used them for for experiences and add on’s. We didn’t use the spa because they told us we had to use credits and pay book prices and wouldn’t give us special pricing. The cenote and member sunset cruises were booked when we looked into them, and fill quickly. Not sure how they can fix that without adding more capacity. Probably the biggest thing I hope they will do is let the butlers help anyway they can, including help make dinner and excursion bookings and put the best ones where they can support the guests that paid for their attention. They are huge brand ambassadors and have had their positions eroded over the past few years with ridiculous schedule rotations and duty removals or reassignments. If member pricing gets better, we will be back.
