1st time in Mexico
Was expecting a bit better experience .Our room must have been the most boring one with a view on a building . Often no hot water. Very noisy air conditioning. Food was ok but nothing exceptional. It took forever to get a glass of wine at sit down restaurant ( all of them) . Lots of rules are not inforced ( people using speakers, smoking, reserving several chairs and not using them until the afternoon sometimes etc..) . The bars are great, friendly and drinks are good. Breakfast buffet was good! The main pool is nice with fun entertainment! We didnt enjoy being bothered every minute by people trying to sell us souvenirs at the beach.

A budget resort that met our expectations
Check In - Quick. Arrived one hour early, so they checked our bags and gave us info on the resort. We grabbed a drink, a bite at the buffet and walked around to familiarize ourselves with the layout. Room - 1807 Top floor with vaulted ceiling, balcony with view of main pool and ocean. Dated, but mostly clean and comfortable. We enjoyed leaving our slider partially open with the curtains closed in the evenings to fall asleep to the ocean waves with AC turned off. They filled the fridge daily with our preferred beverages and the room was always tidied up. Buffet - Breakfast was good. Favorites were the cooked to order omelets, bacon (you have to ask for it at the egg station) and fresh fruit. Enjoyed lunch selections too, especially the chicken tacos and chorizo off the grill. We stopped in one night for Dinner, but didn't care for the "Asian" themed selections. Salvador's - Flank steak was the only memorable item, husband enjoyed the fish which was listed as Snapper, but was told later it was Mahi Mahi. Everything else was either served room temp or lacking flavor. Los Gallo's - Similar to prior dinner, we didn't enjoy the cold cooked meat appetizers. Soup was good, I enjoyed my chicken entrée and my husband liked the grilled shrimp. Paradise - Excellent service, food was very good especially if you like seafood. We dined here twice so my Husband could have more seafood and honestly the staff went above and beyond here to make you feel welcome. *Note - We found out that they also serve breakfast as overflow for the Buffet. We did this twice when there was a line and although the selections are more limited it was enough, plus you can still order the omelet and bacon. Pool Snack Shack - Burgers, Dogs, Fries and Nachos. Nothing fancy, but good for a quick bite. Breezes Beach Bar - Great place to hang, although we mainly went at night. Good drinks and they do serve food which looked good, including sushi in the evenings, but we never ate there. It was fun to watch the wedding parties being held right next to it and also quite often a roving band on the beach that was entertaining. Coffee Bar & Snacks - Loved having this option for "specialty" coffee, but quite often it wasn't working and would take a while for someone to fix it. Usually still had drip coffee though. Trafalgar - Described as a "English Style Pub", but it isn't; decor was more mid century modern. Still a place to go play pool, watch sports and have a drink. No draft beers when we were there, they were serving Victoria and Corona Familiar from big bottles. Main Lobby Bar - Usually easy to get a drink at and one night they had live music there. Pools - First off I will say the "Towel game" is very active at this resort. It is what it is and either you play it too or you figure out an alternative for spending the day at the pool. Wasn't as much of an issue for the beach, but still can limit availability. * Main Pool - Very busy, lots of daily activities, easy access to bars and food; we only spent one day here. * Rooftop Pool - This was our preferred pool. Very chill, small bar, great views and usually a little bit of a breeze which was great for cooling off. Beach - Lots of vendors, but that was expected. A simple "no gracias" and they move on if you're not interested. Sand was soft, but hot. Beach has swimmable areas or you can just hang out and enjoy the view. Our first day we saw Whales and that was very exciting! Also lots of paid activities like jet skis, parasailing and banana boats if that's your thing. Gift Shop - Reasonable selection and prices were better than expected. Club Nitro - We went one night for what would I would describe as Musical Impersonation Show. I'm sure they put a lot of effort into it, but it wasn't very good compared to shows we've seen at other AI resorts. We left early and didn't check any of the other shows. Didn't visit the Gym, Spa, Tennis Court or any Restaurants on the family side so I can't speak to those. A few other observations - * Dining reservations start everyday at 9:00, via QR code. We forgot some days and were still able to walk in to most restaurants as long as we went early. So it's definitely worth checking if you forgot and don't want buffet dinner. * We like to tip at AI's if allowed and we did generously here; it did seem to be appreciated and while I did see others doing it I wasn't as often as I am used to. * I unfortunately do not speak Spanish beyond some simple phases and had two instances when I was passed over at the bars when getting drinks to those that did fluently. One particular time I was the second person waiting for a drink and the bartender looked beyond me, spoke to others behind me and served them. After this happened three times, a young man that witnessed it (who was a guest like me) pointed me out to her, had an exchange in Spanish with her and then he apologized to me even though it wasn't his fault. Not sure if this happens often or if it was just a fluke, but it was the first time I've experienced it in all my years of vacationing. * We walked to several places near the resort and felt safe day or night. The grocery store nearby was a wonderful perk to grab an assortment of things from food to toiletries to souvenirs. * If inclined I definitely recommend going into downtown for a day. The Malecon was beautiful and lively, but a little too touristy for us. But just a few blocks up we ate amazing food, had drinks, chatted with locals and just enjoyed the sights. Overall we did enjoy ourselves and got the relaxation, sun, drinks and food we expected. We originally chose Crown Golden Paradise based on a good package deal we found and while we got enough value from it, based off of other All Inclusive Adult Only resorts we have stayed at, we most likely wouldn't return. We would love to return to Puerto Vallarta though, but think next time we'll choose a resort that isn't AI to allow for us to spend more time eating local food and having those experiences.

Lost in Translation?
ROOM: When we booked we requested room not on ground level, king size bed and quiet location. We got ground level, double beds, next to bar and elevator. After two times asking we got moved to 3rd floor with king bed on the 3rd day of stay. 2nd room was an improvement but the toilet didn't flush properly and the shower temperature was either very hot or cold...no in between. FOOD: it was okay. I am a very basic eater and found it hard to find something without sauce, although was still okay. One complaint was the access to bacon in the morning. They had it behind the counter and they gave you 2 pieces if you asked. This is the first resort that did this out of the other 10 we have stayed at. BEACH: Location was nice but waves most days very strong. Did get to see whales from our ocean front room on one morning. But the beach vendors were non stop. Frankly it got tiring. Even after kindly saying no thank you, they would come back, repeatedly. They were allowed to come and wander through the beach beds on property, trying to sell their goods. OVERALL: An okay resort but we are unlikely to return.

Mixed Emotions
Trust me when I say this, I have stayed at many resorts and have NEVER left a review, but this time I felt the need to inform the next Travelers about this property. The positives: The best beach by far, very clean and inviting. Lots of vendors, but all you had to say is, no thank you and they would leave you alone. Clean rooms, the air conditioning worked very well, lots of hot water and plenty of pressure. Big shout out to Daniel, you by far was the best ever. If you need anything, Daniel's the best!! Great job Daniel!!!!! Now the negatives: No coffee makers in the rooms (Seriously?), it may sound trivial, but I've never seen that at any resort.....EVER. No wash clothes, again (Seriously?). No salt or pepper at the buffet, you had to ask for it every day, they would not leave them at the table, Needs a lot of updating, no attention given to same of the basic things. No groups larger than 7 people could sit together at the buffet, we tried to bring an 8th chair over and I thought we were going to resort jail, she seriously got angry and said, NO MORE THAN 7 PEOPLE. Sorry for the rant, I could go on and on but I just wanted the next groups to know what they were in for. After it was all said and done, we did have a great time. We just had to make the best out of a ( less than perfect ) situation. Thank you for reading, I hope this may help somebody in the future. God Bless
