Nov 03, 2024Will not stay again due to staff interactions.
I reserved king bed rooms and requested a rollaway bed for one room for an extra child. Was told that the request was in and I could have one. Upon arrival , this hotel DOES NOT HAVE ROLLAWAY BEDS. They suggested I pay for a third room. No offer to reduce my rate or compensate me . Staff were very rude and aggressive that it was not their fault bc the Marriott reservation phone number made the mistake. Rooms and hotel in general were pretty tired and could definitely use an update. Will not stay here again due to staff interactions.

Oct 31, 2024Hotel in Homewood - Best Place to Stay in Birmingham!
I must admit I was a little apprehensive about our stay in Birmingham, being from the UK and having read about crime rates in the media, however, this was one of the most pleasant surprises of our three-week road-trip. Homewood is lovely, we even enjoyed an evening stroll around and much to our delight saw some fireflies for the first time!! I wish we had time to stay and explore more the next day. This hotel is in a safe area and feels modern and well kept, we received a very friendly welcome and were issued with a little bag of goodies! Our room was very spacious; comfy beds, a large shower and big windows with a nice view out the front of the hotel. Complimentary breakfast was grab and go, just what we needed for our one-night layover. Thank you Aloft for a great stay!

The stay was pleasant enough. The day after checkout, however, we discovered that Aloft had charged our CC $980!!!!! as an authorization fee. We stayed one night only, and used no services, and had paid for the room on Hotels.com. Aloft initially lied to us and said it was a Hotels.com charge and we would have to deal with them. After sending them bank record screen shots they relented, but made no apology, offered no help, and told us that the charges did not show in their system so they were not able to help us. Only after DAYS of calling and calling, corporate and local, did someone at Aloft FINALLY mention that there had been a system wide problem causing these fake charges, and they would reimburse us. Mariott corporate actually had the nerve to tell us we could not file an "escalation claim" unless we became Marriot rewards members!!!??? One week later and our funds are still not returned. No apology at all, no offer of restitution in any other way, The absolute worst treatment I have ever experienced with ANY stay, ever. STAY AWAY FROM ALOFT AND MARRIOT

Sep 15, 2024Won’t Stay Again
The location is good & the employees were great! However, the hotel Is outdated & dirty! Some of the rooms smelled of cigarettes, took a while for water to get hot, an electrical outlet was hanging out of the wall, phone didn’t work in one of the rooms when trying to call the front desk, elevators are extremely slow! There was a patch on one of the walls that looked like someone had punched a hole in the wall. I got trapped in the bathroom because the door is like a pocket door and slides to the side, when opening it, it hit the hair dryer & bathroom counter & would only open a few inches! Thank goodness my husband was in the room to let me out! I glad we were only there for one night. That was more than enough! I am one & done and wouldn’t stay again!

Aug 08, 2024Aloft Employees working hard to turn things around! Love it again!
We have been staying at the Aloft for the past 10+ years. Great location, wonderful rooms/beds. Easy walking to shopping, food and beverages. Great, fun open lobby. We love it, though there have been issues. There still are; however, the last year or so, the employees have really stepped it up! They work hard, they care, and that has made a huge difference. Tomorrow will start our third long visit this summer. The first one I was alone visiting friends and family for a week. As I walked in, I was greeted by CHARLIE, a bright star I would soon realize! He welcomed me, acknowledged me as a Bonvoy member. He helped me with my room requests, etc. Great guy. Little did I know, he would jump in for maintenance issues, among other duties. He's a proverbial Jack of All Trades! THIS GUY IS FIRE! Next, I got to my room and the AC was acting up. Jerome came up and immediately knew what was wrong. This man cares about this place. We had a nice chat, and he told me to call if I had any issues. He appreciated me coming back at a time when the hotel is about to be renovated....way overdue in both of our opinions! Also, Terry was so nice and took care of me at the bar both weeks. He was always chatty and provided great cocktails. Housekeeping was FABO! Always so friendly and helpful. We are looking forward to coming back! Again, hope to see Charlie, Jerome, Terry, Ashlee and Alexis--both great and friendly housekeepers, as well as Tina, Sherry and Jessie. This place is going to be primo once again. So nice to see people who enjoy their jobs, work hard and are friendly and helpful to guests. We travel quite a lot, and this hotel makes me happy! Love the new plants, and the hallways seem cleaner. Elevators are wiped down. Pool and gym are nice. Gets a bit hot and steamy in the pool area. All in all, beds so comfortable, not noisy and the AC works! Little more minimalist than some hotels, but I like it. Fridge and good water pressure are a plus. * Hope they put ice machines on each floor* Nice, friendly and hardworking employees. They are also working to have dog lovers all together on one floor or half a floor. Dogs are great, but we are allergic. Very helpful--thank you Charlie. We love the Aloft and look forward to the renovation. I just had to highlight these great employees for going out of their way to watch out for me! (and us, the last two times!) Pump that signature scent in the lobby! Makes me so happy to walk in a smell it!! See you all later today!!! P.S. Yes, we have stayed at other places nearby. The Valley is beautiful and expensive. The Embassy needs to be imploded. Nothing is more centrally located and convenient as Aloft SoHo Square. Thank you!
